Our coach from the Clifton got taken to Dorking nick on the way back from Cambridge after a disagreement with some biker chaps at Box Hill. I don't think I ever went there without there being some sort of shenanigans.
Spent one night in Cambridge police station on our way back from Peterborough in 86 which was the last straw for the girl I lived with. Met my wife two weeks later so Cambridge 29 years on has fond memories for me.

They got 5,500 against Carlisle recently, we took 3,500 there for opening day a decade back...

I know the match you mean, but I think the phrase 'took over their ground' had another thinly veiled meaning. My main point is that a very small handfull of members on the board like to pontificate on 'This is England' glories of the past which have rather grown taller with the telling.

I remember it well, if slightly differently to you. As I recall 3 cambridge supporters came out of a pub, one of them on crutches, passed the main group of us then the one on crutches smacked Huw , who was lagging behind, with the crutches the dropped them and ran off down an alley. I don't remember a baseball bat and I don't recall anyone being kept in hospital for longer than a brief check up, infact I thought Huw and his mate arrived at the game around half time. And I can hardly believe we were minding our own business,we'd been on the lash and poppers since we left home , had been escorted out of Harlow(?) town centre earlier and behaving like a right bunch of minges all day

Huw never made it to the match Ive spoken to him about this before when he visited from Texas, and one of the Cambridge twats dropped a metal baseball bat and ran into a church, and we WERE !!! minding our own as there was no one else around apart from the shitheads who jumped out on Huw.
Very brave of them !!! Get it right Buzz

Your right about no one else apart from those that jumped him and around 25 to 30 of us and knowing the people that were in our group I dont think claiming sanctuary wouldve done the Cambridge fan much good, me and Roger Cott were possibly closer than most to the incident and I can definitely say that I dont recall a baseball bat,Maybe Huw didnt make the game and it was his brother and mate that turned up at halftime. Like I said if we were minding our own business it was for the first time that day, we were shitbags all day, can you remember dismantling the perimeter fence during the game?
Anyway whatever the actual story it was a shitty trick to pretend to be on crutches then use them to attack an isolated supporter

Pitiful. You have decided that all Cambridge fans are 'scum' because of an isolated incident involving a small amount of them.

Meanwhile, Simon Dobbin, a mild-mannered father of three is STILL in a coma, having been unfortunate enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
