He's realised he wont get first team football here week in week out, and can get the same position (back up left back) in a league higher. If Williams (their left back) is off as people say, maybe he feels he has a good chance of starting games there next season. How the hell you can tell him to f*** off, is well and truly beyond me. One of the nicest blokes i have ever met, on more than one occasion, and was genuinely enjoying it down here. He is a profesional footballer, with a family to look after like a large proportion of people on here, maybe he feels living up north closer to home would be better suited, you never know.... maybe he needs to keep his options open as he's been told he's being put up for sale in the summer, its hardly as if he's going to slag off Scunthorpe and leave himself f***ed.
For you say something like that is beyond me. :wozza:

look, i never said jimmy is not a nice bloke, adam virgo is a nice bloke and has improved no end through this season and he was let go, as a club we are evolving and we are going to be going upwards in the close future and as such we need everyone involved to be committed to us, and as for the living up north bollocks, well it is utter bollocks - he is a professional footballer who agreed to move here and play for us - nobody forced him into it, plus i doubt he will be put up for sale as gus has said that "the only 2 loan players he wants back are tunnicliffe and mcnulty" so i'm afraid that argument does not stand up either. and do you really think jim would be 1st choice lb at a championship side when he could not get in here over painter - i really think not.

maybe i have come across a little harsh, but this is my opinion much the same as your opinion is your own, but can you honestly say hand on heart that just because you have met the bloke and he is "nice" that we should want to keep him when he does not want to be here when there are plenty of others who do want to want to be here and bleed blue and white the way us, the fans do?

apologies - if Sparrow were to come here (29yo, attacking midfield proven at league 1 level plus championship experience) it would be on a straight deal not as part of a swap for McNulty as I understand Sparrow's contract expires this summer and he hasn't been offered a new one. So if McNulty goes it will have to be for a fee and Scunthorpe are far from cash rich (although they will get 1.5m-2m for Hooper).

This is what McNulty has had to say:

Scunthorpe United | News | Latest News | Latest News | MCNULTY WOULD BE INTERESTED IN MOVE

My feeling is Gus will tell him he wants him to stay and fight for a place whether at left back or left midfield - whether he is the type of player to do that I don't know

Jim absolutely loves it here in Brighton.

I just think he needs regular football, especially after such a bad injury.

The lack of decent reserve team football has a lot to answer for these days.

I think the talk of him moving is a bit premature. Will Scunny meet our valuation ? I doubt it.

I cannot see Gus wanting him here if he wants out. He has already said nobody will be allowed to go out on loan and must fight for their place. This guy does not even want to come back to try for his place when the replacement is not even signed yet!

Couldn't agree more. I personally hope Jim stays as he looked a quality player before his injury and i am sure he can get back to his best, and would give Gus more options down the left side.

I can promise you he does not want out. He just wants a game and I don't think he is convinced he will get one at Brighton.

After such a serious injury, regular football is a must.

Also, this sort of story always comes up at the end of a player's loan spell. We had it recently with Ashley Barnes. The club / local paper asks them questions and they are hardly going to slag off the club they just played for.

That is certainly the conclusion I arrived at, after reading his comments on the Scunthorpe site.

This. What McNulty actually says in that interview, is NOT, "I want to leave Brighton". It is "I want to play, and I don't know what is going to happen" He says he is due for talks with Gus, and that IF he were to leave he would be keen to stay at Scunny.

Really would like him to stay, i think he's class. Understandable why he would want to leave if he thinks he's not going to get a game here, which would be a shame i think. I guess it all depends on what Gus wants.

Well, we'll find out soon enough. I assume he's now returned from Scunny so let's see if Gus gives him a game on Sat. He played 90 mins on Sunday (so did Lynch) so doesn't seem to have any injuries. With Painter playing games over a contract this would be the ideal chance for McNulty to make a real claim for the LB spot.

You didn't actually READ the interviw then?

*The bit that says "I shouldn't really have played on Sunday, but I really wanted to play a home game, so I strapped the ankle up, and risked it".

No I didn't but even if I had isn't that what footballers do every week all over the country? If he wasn't right he would hardly have lasted 90 mins would he?

in the article on scunny website it says first and foremost it is whether scunny want him, that does not sound like a player wanting to stay here does it? what i'm trying to get cross to some is that just beacuase it jimmy mcnulty he should not be treated differently to any other player who comes out in public and declares that he wants away from the albion because the manager might not pick him as 1st choice week in week out and he might have to actually fight for his place the way the rest of the squad have to.

if he wants to play that much then maybe he should get his head down, show he is in better condition than when he went on loan instead of announcing that he wants a move away from his parent club, or does it work differently for one player

I agree. Reading the article, it looks more like the guy was put on the spot and tried to say the right things, whilst keeping his options open. Only time will tell.

Now that the championship season is over does he return for the last game? Same applies to Dickinson (maybe even more so given the Barnes/Holyroyd/Murray situation).
Will they get a run out, be in the stands or gone on holiday?

Yeah all relative isnt it. Given the dearth of left backs we've had in recent years to have someone like him was great, but after injuries etc Painter soon came in and upped the standard once more.

If this is true I'll be sad, really like the guy and his determination to keep coming back but sadly Painter's the better option.

Spot on

I think to challenge at the top of the table you need two good players in every position.

If McNulty has taught us anything it is that injury can strike in even the most random circumstances.

Hope we can keep both.
