Not helped by the fact most men are incapable of sitting with their legs tucked in.

Really annoying. The cheap FCC only tickets were just about the only thing on the line approaching value for money. I envisage even more child singles to Preston Park in the future for me.

The only bad thing about German trains is that traveling on one means you are in Germany.

Not to mention likely to be travelling with Germans as well

So the other people will generally be quiet and considerate, and you can always take a walk to the bar carriage where you'll be offered a selection of decent quality cold beers served in an actual glass by a smiling barman

Where are you travelling??

The London mainline trains on Southern are considerably roomier than the FCC heaps.

There are two configurations. The 3+2 across seats (too cramped) and the 2+2 (comfortable). But in both cases the distance between the facing seats is greater than on FCC trains where it is all but impossible not to intertwine your legs with anyone sitting across from you

FCC rolling stock was more like laughing stock! Never run on time after about 6 in the morning. Southern is more comfy, but I don't think it really matters who runs it, it's still the same Victorian lines that can't cope with today's demands.

I am sure that many of you will be fascinated to know the following nabbed of Wikipedia:-

• to operate all suburban services between Oxford, Newbury, Reading and London

Is this the best you can come up with? Give me the Deutsche Bahn and a few days of strikes over the 365 days of misery the UK rail bods inflict on England any day. In fact, make that 364 as of course trains don't run on Xmas day.

No-one has lost their job as yet, all staff will transfer under TUPE

Great so the privitised railway becomes an even bigger monopoly. Where is the competition to drive down prices and improve service? Now it is just one company whose only interest is maki g money for shareholders.

That was my initial thought (and still is). Mainly owned by Go Ahead, the company creaming great profits from the general public (Brighton buses amongst others).
