With the absence of buses, I love walking through the thick snow from Kemptown to Hove... a great morning ahead!

In my day the bus routes were always gritted and, as the buses ran more frequently then,so those routes would always be passable. Now the wuss'es on the buses pull the service for barely a flake of snow ... ego chaos !

Serious Weather Disruption

7.10am Wednesday 6 January
1 - operating between Whitehawk Bus Garage and Portslade only.

2, 2A - normal route between Shoreham and Old Steine only.  We are unable to serve Sutherland Road, Woodingdean or Rottingdean.  We are unable to serve Steyning at present and service 2A is starting at Bramber Castle.

5, 5A, 5B - unable to serve Hangleton, Patcham or Hollingbury areas.  All buses are running between Coleridge Street and Preston Circus only.  The service has unfortunately had to be pulled back temporarily because the A23/A27 roundabout where buses had been turning is now blocked by a broken down vehicle.

6 - operating between Portslade Station and Brighton Station only.  We are unable to serve Downs Park.

7 - normal route

12, 12A - buses from Eastbourne are unable to climb the hill out of the town, so they will leave Eastbourne Pier and Arndale Centre as normal and then operate via the A22 and A26 to Denton Corner, then normal route through Newhaven to Brighton.  Buses from Brighton to Eastbourne will follow the same diversion.  Buses on service 12A will operate as normal between Chyngton Estate and Brighton, but this will mean that the service from Seaford will be reduced, as only 12A buses will serve Seaford, not the 12 or 12X.

14 - normal route

16 - no service at present

20 - buses are operating between Bramber Castle and Old Steine.  We are unable to reach Steyning.

21 - no service at present

22 - no service at present as Elm Grove and Woodingdean are impassable

23 - buses will run normally EXCEPT they will run via Edward Street and Lewes Road instead of Queen's Park Road

24 - unable to serve Coldean, buses operating along Lewes Road only

25 - normal route except unable to serve the University campuses

26 - no service at present due to Ditchling Road and Hollingbury being impassable

27, 27A - operating between Saltdean Lido and Seven Dials only

28, 29 - buses are running between Brighton and Lewes only, via the Lewes By Pass and the Cuilfail Tunnel.  We are unable to reach Ringmer, Uckfield, Crowborough or Tunbridge Wells.

37, 38 - no service at present

46 - operating between Southwick and Open Market only.  Ditchling Road and Hollingbury are impassable.

49, 49A - unable to serve Moulsecoomb or Bevendean, so buses are operating from The Avenue to Portslade only.

50 - no service at present as Ditchling Road and Hollingdean are impassable

56 - will operate between Sainsbury's West Hove and Preston Circus only.  Buses are unable to serve Knoll Estate and the Hollingbury and Patcham areas are impassable

81 - operating between Hove Station and Rock Gardens only as Goldstone Valley and Queen's Park Road are impassable

84 - no service as Falmer Road and Woodingdean are impassable

We are continually checking roads and this page will be updated with up to the minute details as the situation progresses.

To be fair, modern buses just ain't up to snowy conditions. Automatic transmission, power assisted steering and rear engines aren't especially condusive to snow and ice. Back in the day, the old manual gearboxes and front engined design gave for much better control in these conditions. Sorry if I sound like an "anorak"!

All buses suspended again, Sussex Police have advised Brighton & Hove to stop them... Mendoza is stranded and another 10 minutes and I would have been too!

It was a mare, they just kcked everyone off the bus, even though he was driving back to town to the deopt

Luckily another bus saw everyone walking back and took everyone back to the depot. I walked from there to the Ashoka  were there was a taxi to jump into

the snow is getting worse and worse, so tomorrow could be a write off too

I walked from the far end of Lower Bev to get the bus at the bottom of the Ave. When the bus got to lewes road garage and after people had paid to board, someone came out and told the driver that all buses were being withdrawn.

Many people were not happy, especially those who had just paid. I was half way to work, stopped off for a cuppa at my Son's but, with no improvement after an hour. i headed home via H's cafe in Coombe Road.

Doubt i'll be chancing it tomorrow as it will be all iced up then. Not too bad walking in the snow but ice....
