If only you could get a job in the public sector so you could listen to the General Secretary of Unite wittering on about an incremental change to the precise thickness of the gold plating on your pension.
Probably not the thread for this, the bloke has been told he may be made redundant, why not add some useful advice or sympathy.

I really sympathise with people who are made redundant, often through no fault of their own. However, some comments on here about the rich trying to make money by making people redundant are so wide of the mark it's untrue.

Redundancies happen because companies are struggling. I've been made redundant, and I've had to make people redundant in my time. The latter was the most miserable discussion I've had - making someone redundant was worse for me than being made redundant. It's horrible. Some people here seem to think there are others sitting in gold thrones laughing & rubbing their hands with glee at the thought of laying people off. It's completely unhelpful.

The reality is that redundancies are usually made as a last resort. Basically, a company makes people redundant so they stop losing money - so the people left in the company still have work. A company may make 20% of their staff redundant so the other 80% still have work.

Best of luck to those who have been made redundant.

No doubt you will be replaced with someone on the same or slightly lower wages than yourself and they will be told that they are lucky to have the job and that if they prove themselves there could be more money in it for them if..... and so on. I can see a revolution coming before too long.

If you are, you can claim unfair dismissal, as it's actually illegal to employ someone in the same job as the person made redundant.

Just like to say a big thank you to those that have posted helpful comments or PM'd me!
Please keep 'em coming - really does help to keep that positive mindset needed at a time like this!

Also will hopefully help others in the same situation right now.

Cheers :)
