The BBC says it is concerned for the safety of a correspondent who has gone missing in the Gaza Strip.
The corporation said it has been unable to contact Alan Johnston, amid reports he has been kidnapped.

Palestinian police officials said he had been seized by four armed men in Gaza City on his way back to the bureau from the Erez checkpoint.

His hire car was found empty near his apartment in the city, they said.

A number of other journalists and aid workers have been kidnapped in the Gaza Strip in recent months but they have been released unharmed soon after.

The Hamas militant group, which leads the Palestinian Authority, has condemned Johnston's reported kidnapping and called for his immediate release.

Palestinian security forces have set up checkpoints around Gaza and are searching for the correspondent.

The last foreigner taken hostage in Gaza was French news agency AFP photographer Jaime Razuri, seized on 1 January and freed one week later.

Johnston has been the BBC's correspondent in the Gaza Strip for the past three years.
