Does anyone know how much it costs to park here?
I've got a feeling its a fiver all day. Is this right?

£10:00 per day according to the First Capital Connect website

http://www.firstcapitalconnect.co.uk/pages/destinations/station-info/display.aspx?CRS=BTN

Southern don't seem to be encouraging parking at the station:-

Prices
1 Month: £70.00
3 Months: £190.00
12 Months: £600.00

Unfortunately you can not purchase a car park ticket online as there is a waiting list for tickets. Please visit the station ticket office to enquire about the waiting list.

Funny that; the annual rate at East Grinstead is more than that I think and I think it is an absolute con. I have given up parking there and now park in a local estate - East Grinstead of course does not have the parking restrictions that Brighton does, saving myself £170 a quarter, which makes quite a difference to me. In addition, I have to go up from Oxted once every three weeks and you could not use an East Grinstead parking ticket there, despite them both being on the same line and the actual rail tickets being valid. It's an extra £3.50 per day. Southern are rip-off merchants in my view. Daily rate at EG was £2 when they took over the franchise. Within a year they had raised it to £3.50. It's now £3.70. I hate to think what it is at Haywards Heath.

Daily: £5.00
Weekly: £20.00
3 Months: £220.00

When I park at a station I use Glynde. It's free.

As is rail travel, if you're lucky. No staff, no ticket machine, not even a Permit to Travel machine. And very often ... an on-train conductor, who can't be bothered.

They are slowly marking more double yellows near Shoreham station to encourage use of the station car park.

You can't blame them for charging a premium - captive audience, market forces, blah blah blah.

£10:00 per day and £70.00 per month?

No wonder there's there's a waiting list for tickets. That monthly ticket price is ridiculously low compared to the daily rate.

Park for free near Preston Park Station. You know it makes sense.

Very true, but my friend co-owns the web design place and flat opposite the Crab Tree, and to be fair the daily rate there doesn't seem to be as much, from what I can remember

That's not market forces - as Beach Hut suggests. It's a pricing strategy designed to support the City Council's transport strategy.

The pricing structure encourages regular commuters to use the station car park, but actively discourages the casual parker from using the Station car park for less than it would cost to park elsewhere in the city centre.

When on-street parking charges (and revised off-street car parking charges) were introduced in Lewes, a lot of people discovered that parking all day at the station was cheaper than anywhere else in the town centre.

Result - the station car park was full by 8.30am and off-peak rail users couldn't find a space.

Increasing the daily charge has now restored the situation that delivers a parking space to off-peak rail users. Much better for anyone who doesn't realise that there are cheaper council car parks within walking distance, at Mountfield Road or even North Street.

Ah, right. As always, m'lud, I stand before you humbled and corrected. Have to admit, I never saw it in terms of a strategy thing, just assumed it as a way of maximising revenue. Can't help but feel that (a la congestion charge) the monthly fee could be racked up, in this case maybe by a factor of four or five and there'd be enough more-money-than-sense suits who would still pay it without batting an eyelid. Seventy quid a month is small change to these people.
