Trpuble is, we are a selling club and it's that or no club.

It's always a gamble as to when is the best time. if we had sold Zamora 12 mths earlier we may well have got nearer the £3m because that was the market at that time.

It would be nice to hang onto our best young players, especially as moving early does not always work for them but, if we keep him and he beaks a leg, pickes up damaging knee injury or just generally does not progress as expected, then we would have lost that chance to cash in.

As I don't have two halfpennies to rub together, all this talk of millions for a footballer is amazing.

Who else walked for the "buy a player" fund, and is gobsmacked to see these figures bandied about?
I went on the walk and raised £1 which was quite a lot for a sponsored walk back in 1971. Dennis Burnett signed from Millwall was well worth the £6k we paid for him.

Actually, wasn't it bert Murray from Birmingham for £10k, the Peoples Player?

This was the fundraising walk by Albion manager Pat Saward & fans, down on the seafront.

Dennis Burnett came later, 75 I think, signed by Peter Taylor the 1st.

It must have been Bert Murray. I can remember the seafront walk in 1971. Didn't we also have a fundraiser to buy Burnett ?

Wouldn't be surprised to see Elphick go.
If the price is right we cannot afford to say no.

Hopefully it will help to build the new team we need if we are to progress.

And yes it was Bert Murray that our cash bought. Short lived but great PR

1.5 million is good business for homegrown talent. Bit like Virgo really, nice to keep but at that price cash in and use the money to strengthen the team....... Money has to be reinvested in players though if DK wants bums on seats..

If Elphick has an agent - and doubtless he has as they all have these days - I am sure that his agent will be hassling the club to sell him so I am sure we will do so.
I hate to agree with the orange one here but I am with Simon Jordan on the subject of agents

Is that the same Jordon who owned shares in a football agency himself ?

A year ago I'd have agreed with you but did he really come on that much last season, too many lapses of concentration and too often trying to be too cute in playing the ball out of defence, and getting caught out in crucial matches, costing us more points than Elphick did. Can that be coached out of him?

Lynch is also injury prone

:nono::nono::nono:......... Please !......... We don't need playing the ball out of defence rather than it being hoofed out coached out of anyone, thankyou.

I have no problem with the ball being played out of defence, in fact like you, I'd prefer it but there is a difference between making the decision to play it or trying to dribble it out when it should be hoofed or whacked into the stand, which was the case on quite a few occasions last season from Lynch. Probably didn't make that clear, but it was those situations that I was talking about when I questioned whether it could be coached out of a player, or coached into him as to when to try and play clever football and when to just get rid of the ball.

Tommy Elphick is 5'11". Paul McShane is 6'0".

I am genuinely suprised and my argument falls flat on it's face :glare:

Even in the old Division One we were a selling club, after all we sold Lawrenson did we not ? If the rice is right most clubs are 'selling' clubs.

Can't see him going there. I'd have thought he would hang on for a Prem team.

id be very suprised if any premiership teams came in for him. he hasn't proven himself above league one level yet, so it would be seen as a substantial risk for anyone in the top flight to take a punt on him
