Great documentary on Britain's most popular politician on BBC2 just now.

What would Labour do to have someone of his charisma in their ranks?
Brilliant documentary. The guy is unbreakable!

He doesn't hide the skeletons in the cupboard, which just strengthens his position. He loves the adulation also, following his Hyde Park display!

What would Labour do to have someone of his charisma in their ranks?

..and what do the Tories do because he is an absolute thorn in the Prime Ministers side.

Back to the question, probably not a lot because they would realise like the Tories that although he is popular within the local organisations he is seen as a diversive figure by the party at large.

Universally untrusted and blamed by many for a lot of Major's problems in the 90s due to his Eurosceptic articles in the Telegraph. The question being does he really hold those views or was he just late to file copy and made something up ?

That's right. Many on both sides of the party weren't particularly happy about stories about straight bananas.

That is his genius. Didn't really get covered in the programme but he was able to knock out an article (true or not) in minutes that would get people talking. He also was quite an expert on the European Parliament, his father being an MEP after all. Labour hated him turning up to press conferences because the combination of his mischievous nature and his knowledge of how it all worked.

Along with his obvious intelligence, he is extremely erratic. The infamous article about Liverpool wasn't even written by him. He took the flak (begrudgingly) because it should have been.

The Tories also worry about his personal political viewpoint. Nobody seems to know and it's questionable whether it actually actually exists.

Max Hastings summed it up the best. If they elect Boris they really are pushing the panic button.

Boris came over as a likeable upper class twit again in this programme, but one now senses that it is all style with no substance.Great to see him take the piss out of Cocaine Dave though.

Just checked the first two pages of your postings on this forum and not 1 is about BHAFC. Bozza - is there the possibility that HOFNSKIN is similar to our old friend Buba? In this case paid to spin left wing propaganda on sites where there may be some pro-right views expressed? Worth a look...

That was an interesting documentary. You have to be impressed with Boris's ability to be a man of the people, wherever is be as President of the Oxford Union, on HIGNFY, addressing Hyde Park as mayor. He is truly unique and if Cameron had just a quarter of Boris's charisma he might have won that last election.

Just watched in on I player
I dont really understand why people slag him off. He is clearly intelligent, knows what he is doing. WHich other UK politician warrents a 60min Documentry that you would actually watch?
You know what you are getting with Boris, unlike other who are unable to come up with any original thought without trying it out on a focus group first.
