MM isnt going to get the sack and hes just been forced to play with the weakest squad for many years, how can defeat in this game mean he has to go?

Time to spend some money and bring in faces to strengthen the squad, changing manager now would mean sure relegation, with MM well take it to the wire!

MM has got to go.

What rubbish. We've lost narrowly to a team that was Prem last season, that had a million-pound player on the subs bench; our subs were a bunch of teenagers.

It was always going to be a struggle this season and I don't think many of us would have predicted any points away to Southampton - even if we'd had a full-strength team.

MM did not do too badly, We were on a hiding to nothing.

I would forecast that no League team will win at Southampton this season from now on.

Real sickener today. But the damage done on New Year's Eve was far worse. As well as depriving us of 3 points it gave Millwall hope, and look what they've gone and done today, another come from behind victory.

I would'nt go that far

But, with a team as weak as ours today (MAYO IN CM FOR FUCKS SAKE!) then we did very well.

This isn;t the kind of game we need to win.

How can you say that MM should stay? It is not just one game - his record this season is reflected by our league position - in the relegation zone!

Are you going to be saying "give him a chance" as we wave goodbye to the division, or do we offload him and get someone else in?

He has lost us matches with his tactical fuckups on a regular basis - look at the amount of goals we drop in the last few minutes - we snatch defeat from the jaws of a draw so often we have almost made it a career!

I echo Gwylan.

If it were a Cup game, and

If Albion were a League One side,
-- which they, with the injuries and suspensions might as well be, and

If Southampton were a Premiership side,
-- which they might as well be...

...we'd be pleased by the result, and a draw would have its own DVD.

But...

It was a League game.
We are a Championship side.
Southampton are a Championship side with very few of their Premiership players left.

We are not pleased with the result.

Burley threw some players on, gave his team new options, and we give away the three points in the last five minutes again.

Dunno - ask Dick Knight. It's his job to hire and fire, I just think that the time is right to get rid of MM, and look for someone else.

I'm not exactly sure what McGhee could do? His subs were all kids. Two wingers, a defender and a striker.

There's no point in bringing on cox or Jarrett because Frutos and Carole were our best players. Possibly he could have brought on a defender. It sounded like Lynch was struggling by the end. About the only thing I can think of that he could have done is bring on elphick at right back(if he's able to play at rightback) and move El Abd to the left. But if you do that you risk upsetting the balance of the defence that has been doing so well.

You could bring on gatting as a fresh pair of legs up front but that wouldn't change too much.

At 1-1, with players getting tired, at around the 60-65 minute mark, he should have dropped back from 442 to 541, bolstered the defence. Elphick on for Robinson, put him beside Tank who was tired but still solid, just as an extra line of defence to push Southampton further out. He gave Gatting 2.5 minutes - totally pointless.

Yes, the subs were kids, but beside older heads on the pitch they might have kept us a point rather than letting us give away all three. Again.

That's just a cop-out. If you can't think of someone else that's available presumably you think that Hinshelwood/Booker should take over until we do - that worked really well last time.

If you can't name someone who can do better, then it's best to keep quiet.

Thats bollox. Who knew that Dowie would be good or Boothroyd at Watford?
If you work in the football industry you know the young qualified up and coming people, that I wouldn't be able to name.

McGhee has had his time and I'd prefer to see some young guy given a go.

That would be a great move, inviting Southampton right on top of us! Trying to play them further up the park would be a better option dont you think!!

5-4-1 is asking for trouble as it invites teams to sit further back and would have put even more pressure on the defence as the spare Southampton defender would start moving forward. As GNLF said there were no real radical solutions on the bench today and with 20 minutes remaining we needed wise and experienced heads on the pitch.
