A fully fit Roberts would have continued to ply his trade in the Premiership rather than coming here and imo is undoubtably the best keeper we have had at Withdean.

I love it that Kuipers is still here as he is a quality player who loves the club and for that reason alone he would be my 2nd choice. He is EASILY good enough for this division but if we do go up he's gonna have to prove it all again as we are sure to bring in a keeper who has consistently played at a higher level than him. Can he see off yet another keeper? I wouldn't bet against it.

Having players with MK's attitude (one blip apart!) is what this clubs needs and seems to be rediscovering

It's always difficult when talking about keepers as there is so much more to their game these days than just shot stopping.

I reckon the best in terms of consistency was Beasant. Roberts on some days was the best we have had, but had his 'clown' moments and so for consistency he just loses out. Kuipers is my favourite keeper just because he always seems to have been there for our best moments.

What this does perfectly highlight though is that Wayne Henderson really, really really was nowhere near the league he believed he was.

This poll does not show Henderson wasn't any good.

It shows more people thought Roberts and Kuipers were out best keeper ever. Kuipers will always come out highly in these polls because he is popular and has been here ages.

The split reaction of 97 Brighton fans does not show ANYTHING about how good, or bad, Henderson was.

I never said that the poll shows this - I was commenting on the ability and consistency (respectively) of Roberts and Beasant. Henderson neither had the natural ability of Roberts nor the consistency of Beasant.

Once, just for once, can you please not get the wrong end of the stick?

Fair enough. I think you also need to look at the teams playing infront of the goalies as well.

Roberts was the keeper in a decent team going for promotion...

A goalie is only as good as the defence infront of him.

Very fair point - and that does affect the perception of Kuipers (as I was saying) in as much as he has always been around during success. It makes Beasant all the more remarkable bearing in mind our position when he joined and the age he was

I think Beasand certainly had the best 'presence' and it was easy to see how he had played at the top level.

Just been reading an interesting book which said the best goalies never have to make stunning saves because they have got their angles right to start with. The example it used was David Seaman but I think Beasant would fall into this category.

Rami Shaaban. After all, he did play in the last World Cup. :)

Was at the Emirates last night for the Brazil v Sweden friendly and he came on for the second half. Amazingly my cries of "Brighton reject" from the upper tier seemed to have had some effect on him and he dropped a bit of a clanger for the only goal.

Amazing Rami fact from the programme I never knew. Apparently he used to be a mountain explosives expert (before being released from Brighton, rejected by Dundee Utd, yet still becoming Sweden's second-choice goalie).

Roberts, Blayney, Flinders, Henderson et al ALL kept Kuipers out under a variety of managers.

They can't ALL be wrong...
Blayney never kept Kuipers out, Kuipers was injured when he was here. Flinders was signed due to an injury although retained his place due to good form when Kuipers was fit, Roberts the same. Henderson too was signed Kuipers was injured, and ultimately lost his place to Kuipers leading to his tantrums. MOST of these keepers were only signed because Kuipers has been unlucky to have a number of serious injuries.

tough shout overall between Michel,Hendo (it's a shame we had both at the same time - it was a no winner really , it split the fans having two fantastic keepers at the club) and although i thought he was abit worrying to watch Roberts has to be in with a shout

i voted Michel as he lasted the distance , would've liked to have seen Chris May play abit more though as what i saw of him he looked pretty decent (abeilt these were only pre-seasons)

Completely agree, he did look decent when i saw him in a handful of games, its a shame he never got a proper chance...

Does anyone know why he was dropped?

Abort, retry, fail
I think Chris May plays for Burgess Hill. Town I met him last year in a pub, whilst watching the FA Cup final. He went travelling with Ben Roberts and was looking to get back into football after a break.

I think the official reason was that he was too small, but when he was standing next to Sullivan at the Mayo Testimonial, they looked pretty similar in height and stature...

Any news on how Richard Martin is doing at Man City?

You have a good point there Richie it seemed that most of the shots the opposition took were going straight at Beasant when he was in goal. Yet it wasn't as if they were heading for the middle. Beasant for me stood out. Saying that Kuipers is still here so he must be doing something right. Roberts had an eye for the spectacular and had he not got injured would probably be our number 1 still. Hendersons main trouble was his concentration he would be a top level keeper if he could get his head right.
