I'd like to edit my post slightly (has the edit facilty been removed?) Just looking through the list there Kuipers makes it in as my 7th best Withdean Keeper so he does actually make the top 10.

Name that six in order of merit, I am interested in your view. Please

Apart from that time he threw his toys out of the pram and went to Boston. And spent half a season on the transfer list.

Kuipers wouldn't be here now if Roberts wasn't seriously unlucky with injuries

kuipers would have been sold to peter taylors if he hadn't crashed into that tree

Yeah sure

1st. Ben Roberts
2nd. Wayne Henderson
3rd. Scott Flinders
4th. Dave Beasant
5th. Alan Blayney (1st loan spell, not 2nd)
6th. Mark Walton (although admittedly I didn't see much of him)
7th. Kuipers

Must say though that the 6th & 7th spots could be reversed as it's quite close.

Does amaze how the non shot stopping role of a goalkeeper often gets over looked. Kuipers has obviously stopped many balls going into the net especially this season, but other goalkeepers such as Roberts and Henderson added a whole new element.

The ability to create a chance by throwing a ball out quickly and create a run on the break.

That's the one thing that I always noticed when Kuipers was out for a long spell, we actually seemed to play differently.

Easy to say Kuipers would have saved that, not so easy to say Henderson/Roberts would have thrown that out more quickly and accurately and created a chance.

I'm amazed at the shortness of people!s memories. Most people here agreed that last season Flinders quite rightly kept Kuipers out of the team and yet Kuipers is now the best we had? Oh dear.

Only Roberts and Flinders could honestly be considered Championship keepers altho Hendo had the potential. What many forget is that although Kuipers survived he was mostly number 2. For commitment then fine he"s the best but would we have had so mnay keepers if any of the Withdean managers have felt entirely comfortable with FDM.

Don't get me wrong... FDM has given sterling service but best keeper.... come on!!

The interesting thing to come out of this poll so far is, that all the debate we had on here about how good or bad a keeper Henderson was. He has just 3 votes out of 69 votes so far

To be fair he wasn't hear the longest and didn't leave in the best possible manner. Equally he was young and made a few mistakes, was never going to get many votes as our best Withdean goalkeeper. He could have been though if things had worked out a little differently.

I've voted for Dave Beasant, because somehow only one other person had. He was class, I can't recall him even putting a foot wrong. Obviously Kuipers will get a lot of votes, he's a good keeper and a fan favourite, and Ben Roberts was very good too (although he had his moments on crosses and when attempting to dribble past players!), but if Beasant had stayed on he'd have done just as well as Roberts if not better behind that defence. Very good keeper.

Flinders reminded me of a younger version of Ben Roberts, in general very good but he had a couple of moments where simple crosses slipped straight through his hands, nothing came of them so he remained highly rated.

Henderson, inconsistent. His distribution was overrated largely on the basis of a couple of throws away to Leeds, but he had some great games for us, among rather too many ordinary ones.

Blayney was good in his first spell but looked very shaky in his second and his career trajectory since would suggest he was not that great.

The rest were never more than ordinary.

I think though, that all the debate on here was whether Wayne was a better keeper than Kuipers or not. I was one of Wayne's biggest fans but I still cannot see any way of putting him above Ben Roberts who as I said earlier is in my top 3 keepers over the last 26 years.

Roberts, Blayney, Flinders, Henderson et al ALL kept Kuipers out under a variety of managers.

They can't ALL be wrong...

Not saying Kuipers has not been good for the albion, of course he has, and he is having a very good season so far this year but I think sometimes people vote in these polls on POPULARITY not ABILITY.
