Deepest, darkest Sussex
Dad’s Army (controversially I also enjoyed the more recent Toby Jones film)

Possibly my favourite film of all time, although there isn’t that much ‘war’ in it.

Hither (sometimes Thither)
Sophie Scholl (every time you watch it you think the ending will be different, a testament to the performances)

Flame and Citroën (Mads Mikkelson at the top of his game). Watched that Danish resistance film so many times.

Ahthropoid (assassination of Heydrich)

Valkyrie.

Son of Saul (takes you inside the gas chambers like no other film has)

Brothers is always a top shout @The Clamp. A Yank remake of the Danish original, and imho superior to the Danish version. Stunning performance from Toby Maguire.
A thumbs up for Son of Saul from me. Blimey that was a rendering immersion into the desperation of survival and a smattering of faith remaining in the foul chaos.

I'd add Shoah too. Almost 10 hours of testimony and remembrance accompanied repeatedly by the sounds of the trains carrying so many to slaughter.
