Leeds - but not the dirty bit
My current ISP doesn't offer any free webspace, so are there any recommendations for somewhere free just for a family site, nothing commercial ?

Just stick it on Dropbox and point a domain name to it.

Why not host it yourself if you've got a desktop that you don't mind leaving on and a router that allows dynamic DNS updates (e.g most Netgear routers). That's what I do using Key Focus's free Web Server (no ads or anything) downloadable at http://www.keyfocus.net/kfws/download . I've got a Dynamic IP address (probably like most ISP's dole out these days), but I just use DynDNs.org's free dynamic update to keep things up-to-date. So no need to upload anything to a server - just run it straight from where you've got the web files.

Paid webspace is cheap as chips anyway.

There are loads of options for free cloud storage these days:

Dropbox
Google Drive
Box
Sugar Sync
iCloud

Sign yourself up for some accounts, shovel everything you need in them and you've got everything you need online.

which will cost you more in electricity than £1/mth that uk2 net offers.
