Errm. For the entire time I've used computers the three major office packages (of the era, I know they're not anymore)- Microsoft, Lotus, Claris - ALL had English (GB) spellcheckers. The latter two even had English (GB) GUI translations

Everything has real English spellchecking these days. So you can revert from retardo-spelling to real spelling.
Ah well I've been using a variety of machines, OS's and languages since 1976. I can remember how liberated I felt when I first worked on a machine with a VDU, when you could see what you were typing - and go back and correct it!

'Bailing out near line 1'.

Sorry, I should have said in code. Various computer languages have rejected spellings like centre, colour and totalling, sometimes with just a cryptic error, so to be safe I always try to use the American spellings whenever I'm typing.

I've got a header file that fixes that for me - Retardo.h. Include it in CodeWarrior, and it lets me use calls like SetViewColour() and have the header fix them to the OS's SetViewColor(), and so on.

Tsk! I call that unnecessarily pandering to people's weaknessess. One more area to debug (did I declare it properly?) and more overhead, although I don't suppose you youngsters have to worry about shaving bytes off your code so that it runs in under 8k (yes, 8k not 8mb!) Teach yourself American, it's much easier. Hopefully one day non-US spelling will go the same way as EBCDIC. (Although don't tell DtG as I believe AS400s still use it)

Its me pandering to myself only, its not like Metrowerks provided it

It has one advantage that if anyone did get their hands on my code and forgot to backup /boot/develop/headers they couldn't compile it straight off :)

The last time I even bothered fixing a memory leak was when a sound driver was using kernel addon space excessively - you only have around 256K here, and the driver was filling it so fast that the network card driver couldn't load its addons in by the end of the boot cycle :)

Other than that, having 512MB of RAM and a lightweight OS means I ignore memory leaks....

I'm not talking about memory leaks (like the spooler on earlier versions of NT), I'm talking about making your initial program small enough so it will fit into the available memory! You're right though, it's not something I've really had to worry about for years (apart from programming early Symbol hand-held terminals) but old habits die hard.

Anyway, good for Guy. I hope he gets another year's contract.

I'm impressed at how a thread about our legendary defensive colossus has turned into a techie-geek fest

:p

(just jealous of course as I don't understand a word of it therefore am excluded from your private computer boffin jokes)

:lolol:
