Probably too much to ask for the Giants to win 3 prizes in 4 seasons, but I'm hoping they'll be in the mix. If the pitching shows up again, Posey stays healthy, Panda keeps the pounds off and underachievers like Pence are more productive (lotta P's there) then I'm expecting good things. As for fantasy, I have too many other procrastinatory commitments!

Oh, Easy. Epic fail there. Coming from a Twins fan of nearly 30 years we have just entered what is possibly our darkest days since pre-Viola when we were known as the one team that could never win the World Series. The coming season spells nothing but disaster. No game-winning pitchers and anyone who can bat cant stay off the injury list. Doom, thy name is Minnesota

In football terms, I've been trying to think who you could compare them to, and I would say Everton. Always in with a chance of being on the fringe of the leaders, but rarely actually getting to the post season and really threatening.

Whilst relegation doesn't feature in MLB, the Twins had a terrible year last year. They finished bottom of the American League Central, which was the weakest of the three American Leagues, in fact it was the weakest of all the major leagues with the winner only winning 88 games. And the Twins were 22 games behind the winners, the Tigers.

Well, the only way is UP then Mister Izbak. The Twins open against the Tigers on April 1st. I've got my MLB app snorted, so I can have a little sniff at how they're getting on - I'm guessing a wildcard place at the end of the season is looking, err, wildly optimistic then....

Mind you, will get some good odds on it if I fancy making a further donation to the Ladbrokes coffers. Hmmm, might have a look into that.

Lots of the stats revolve around the pitching matchup, Twins Pitcher v Tigers pitcher. The winner is the pitcher of the winning team, providing they were ahead when he was taken out of the game, and that they didn't subsequently go behind and then come back to win.


with a 1.80 ERA. This is Earned Run Average. His pitching was responsible to the opposition for scoring 1.80 runs over nine innings. The figure is calculated over nine innings even if he pitched fewer than nine. An earned run is one which his pitching was responsible for, in other words it wasn't because of some shit fielding. He allowed the guy to hit and get on, and subsequently score.

In five innings, he has allowed one run One of the runners he allowed on base subsequently scored

on six hits he allowed six batters to hit the ball and get to first base without being out, and none of these hitters got there because of a fielding error.

And you can always tell when its summer time too - that is when the Cubbies annual flirtation with first place is over and they face up to another season looking up at the Reds, the Pirates, the Astros, the Brewers and, of course, your St Louis Cardinals.

Cubs for me, though I've a soft spot for the Tigers due to an old American colleague.This helps as the Cubs season is normally over by 7th April

I'm an Oakland Athletics fan and thoroughly enjoyed coming from behind to win the AL West on the last day of the season in 2012.

My advice to anyone picking a random team - like the Minnesota Twins - and then seeing them bomb from day 1, is to line up Oakland as your back-up. A small market outfit that continues to annoy and frustrate the big-spending Angels (and now Rangers). They have decent pitching, an improving hitting line-up and always seem to produce one or two players from nowhere.

O we might SEEM to bomb from Day 1 but thats not the Twins way. They start the season trying to destroy all your expectations but then around all-star time theyll go on an 18-game unbeaten run, come into touching distance of the play-offs and then implode again. With the Twins either we are dead certs for the play offs or just awful except for one month in the season.

im not sure who to follow this season. i had a kind of flirtation thing with the angel/padres because of the whole SOCAL thing, but now im not so sure......ALways liked Seattle teams but no idea if their baseball team is any good, and the Rockies wear purple, which is pretty fly, but again i know nothing about them.

The Mariners (who normally suck) are doing surprisingly well in Spring Training, not sure if it will translate into the regular season though. I shall keep an eye on them until they fizzle out and then hope the Nats can repeat the success of last year.

On the "and one walk" - do you mean he's pitched outside of the home plate and / or above/below the hitters knees or armpits 4 times in a row ? In which case the hitter can then just "walk" to 1st base unmolested ?

Thats right. Sometimes a pitcher will deliberately do this if he thinks the batter can hit him out of the stadium
