Was interested to read an earlier post bemoaning that Mrs T. made it possible for punters to buy their council houses.

I wonder if any of these dissenters are from families who bought theirs and quietly overlook their political viewpoint when that house is passed on to them by their familiy, thereby creating a very nice legacy? I wonder how many subsequent generations are now (or at a later date) benefitting from that privilege?

Or how many are struggling to pay hefty rents or mortgages because of the chronic shortage of affordable accommodation - in part, due to Thatcher preventing councils from building flats and houses and due mainly to the manifest inability of the market so beloved of MT and her followers to provide adequate and affordable homes

Or alternatively, not everyone works 9-5 in this flexible, deregulated Thatcherite market economy...
I certainly don't, but (just to counter your pathetic stereotyping) I work long hours and very hard.

Wow a grafter good on you and that makes two replys ( sorry just my pathetic stereotyping )

I think you will find mortgage interest rates are pretty low at the moment

This. The market has given us £250,000 tiny boxes without gardens.

I'm always amazed how many of these SWP members actually do not work. Many do not and many are easily influenced students who have not yet worked.
I thought the clue to being a member/supporter was the second word in the title..."Worker"

Having read all these threads you realise how wonderful politics in maggies day was. You had a choice, right wing or left wing. All we have now are extreme socialists on one side and extreme facists on the other. The main three groups in the middle, are cowards who don't want to offend anyone, so actually end up offending everyone!

I must say I like your response :lolol:

I have never moaned in 40 years of tax paying about my dues going towards the disabled, the pensioners or the genuinely sick and needy, or short term unemployed. The fact that Labour made the system easy for the scroungers (vote catching) and let millions into the country whilst the citizens already here could not find employment, means that 1) The genuine cases are not being helped properly.
2) Money is being taken away/not given to cases 1), because too many are riding the system.
So, if you can get people off benefits, NOT by bringing more people into this country.....i mean the people already here....then the money that the new employed will pay in tax, plus the saving of paying out benefits to them.........would/SHOULD benefit the genuine cases mentioned in the first sentence.

Do the scroungers include tax dodgers like Philip Green, the Barclay brothers, Lord Ashcroft, etc or is just the working classes that you hate ?

They reached 15% under Thatcher. She also abolished rent controls and refused to build Council housing both of which are reasons for the criminally high level of private rent now.

Did you not read the reply I responded to , obviously NOT , because if you had you would have realised the guy was talking about today's housing not the interest rates in the 80s

Most definitely, all of these and many many more, if you had read my earlier post.
Again, if you had read my earlier posts, you might realise that i am working class. I have never voted Tory, and am embarrassed to say that i voted for Bliar for his first term. I suppose that is why i am so anti Labour, they were mean't to be pro working class....they were worse than the Tories.
So you can add Bliar, Brown, Cameron (Rothchild) Prescott and all the other scroungers that have fleeced the general public.

Today's housing market - both rental and sales - is directly linked to the damage she wrecked on it. I am among I suspect many who could not afford to buy the property I live in if I was in my 20's again and rents in London and elsewhere are an obscenity.

I share your disgust with New Labour. It was entirely predictable that Blair would be licking her behind this week.
