try to but there's never any stalls there to warrant a visit. Maybe the stall holders will come back when the weather warms up a bit more. With regards to 99p, disgraceful....I remember a pound land being in South Road before and that closed down, and was in a smaller unit. Is the penny off really gonna make that much difference!!!?

They had a change of use and building permission notice displayed about 15 months ago. If it is true the rumour that a part owner of Orange SQ , who is local councillor has got it stopped that is awful and also unlawful. Tim Martin original owner of Wetherspoons made his money on the fact that he was a lawyer and knew that it was illegal to object to a license on the grounds of not needed or other publicans objections. If that was true I am certain, knowing him very well, as I was his stocktaker at his first pub he would take such a rejection to court.

Trouble is with The Priory, as nice as it looks and is inside etc, it's just in the wrong end of town. It's too far away from The Broadway to make it a viable option for a restaraunt/bar as people have found out many times before.

Its illegal but it goes on. Marks & Spencer were trying to open a store on The Isle of Wight but were obstructed by the district council for years due to a varity of 'reasons'. Why?

Some members of the Council had 'interests' in a large Hanningtons style locally owned store based over there. Eventually Marks & Spencer open a branch in Newport.

Not for one minute am I suggesting there were vested interests of course.

A 99p store is opening in the town.......

Haywards Heath gets 99p store From The Argus)

Wait until the Daily Mail gets hold of this story. Surely an attack on 'Middle England' values plus it will devalue the house prices of 'hard working families'?

Whatever next? Lydl?.........

That's worse than having a poundland nightmare.

Talking to one of the shopfitters the 99p shop is opening on Friday morning.

I only pray it opens on time, otherwise the Mid Sussex Times will have another crisis on their hands.

Lets face it people of Haywards Heath our town has been dying on its feet for years. Full of charity shops, banks and crap shops. For the record halfords are leaving the town and that site will be turned into another coffee shop. Plus wont be long before forfars leave the town either, possible august time.

If the town centre is to regenerate the town council needs to drop its business rates for the shops as this is the main reason most shops are shutting up and not many more are coming in to replace them.

This has really put a downer on my evening. Shocking, shocking news. Is there an MP we can write to, any will do?

It's not really. It depends which end of town you live in.

I walked past it on my way home from work this evening, and from the face of it it doesn't look like it's full of complete shit like Poundland is. A lot of grocery type stuff at the front, rather than the crap you get at other stores.

I think that The Priory would make a good Wetherspoons because it is away from the main bars and noise of The Broadway rather than be down there. That is probably the reason that the part owner of Orange Sq objected to it as many from that end of town would drink in there on their way to The Broadway thus reducing the revenue for the likes of Orange Sq Savannahs and Q Bar etc. I intend to write to both Wetherspoons and Haywards Heath council to seek clarification as to whether permission was refused or JDW withdrew it.
