Thanks for the tip Chapmans, and I thought only Man Utd did stuff like putting their crest on beer bottles...

Our Champions League/UEFA adventure is etched into my memory. I did have to look up the two in Moscow and Slavias ground, but the rest I can remember of the top of my head.

Thanks Laughing B, I couldn't remember Walsall's ground for the life of me. Think the ground was pretty small and unimpressive, we possibly had a terrace behind the goal,

As it happens, Walsall's Fellows Park was the first away ground I went to on my own - ie: without my dad. We won a thrilling game there 3-2. We were stood on a terrace behind the goal.

The first away ground I ever visited was ....... the Goldstone Ground! August 1975. We won 1-0. Welsh international Tony Villars scored our goal. Don't remember much about it. I was eight at the time. Villars is a driver for DHL these days. I met him a few months ago.

Fascinating.

Some of the shite holes the U21's have played in probably do not have names. Tend to remember countries due to police forces, beer and well not going to go there.

That is exactely how i remembered most of them, the police. Some stick out because of the chants we have/had "dom matteo scored a fcuking great goal in the san siro.." etc.
And some, well just Galatasaray stick out for all the wrong reasons :(

The scariest policing I can remember was Bratislava. The buggers either had ski masks or balaclava's on and the lighting was bad. Coupled with 2 turnstiles for 5000 people and the fact they liked hitting things, it made for an interesting evening.

Sorry Chappers, no pets allowed. We've got enough animals at Ninian Park as it is.

Galatasaray is the singlemost scariest place I have ever been. Got off the plane and into the airport to be greeted by hundreds of their 'fans' with axes and bike chains around the wrists, with their welcome to hell banner. Meanwhile the police stood by and watched while world war three broke out. And continued the whole time we were there.

I dunno, 90 minutes of football cost two wonderful people their lives that week. And coming back two people less, I really really questionned ever going abroad with Leeds again.

I really really question watching Leeds anywhere. Seen 'em about half a dozen times and never seen anything worth gettin excited about. Still must go to Elland Road one more time to sow some salt on their hallowed turf. Yorkshire scum.

Thankfully I have never had the pleasure of Turkey and even if the FA had got tickets, I doubt I would have gone.

Have to say the most fun tend to be the bizare places you would not go to for any other reason. Albania and Azerbijan were fantastic trips (I think).

Fellows Park was just a little bit like Withdean. Bigger though. The trains made a racket when they went past. The stand had a roof like Gruyere cheese and the rain came through. And we had to leave the nearby pub without our drinks*. As soon as we spoke in a southern accent, the tension was so great that it seemed the wise thing to leave. We lost 1-2 in the FA Cup replay. Miscellaneous aggro all through and the worst burger I have ever had anywhere.

*I did moan about not having a full pint and it looking like a milk shake. Apparently, they had bubblers or something to make the beer soapy, and the glasses were more than a pint with lines on them, but I had never seen that before.

No one said you had to watch Leeds?

Nice to know we can provoke such an outburst though ;)

And Buck - Russia was the most amusing trip, sub zero temperatures (by a long way!), 90 minutes of frozen football and a hotel with out rooms on the 53rd floor.

Ex Soviet block hotels, they are classics. Always a bonus if the door locks. Always amazes me that each floor has a number of people employed to run that floor 24 hours a day. In Baku a few people we knew discovered that these maids offered extra services. One thing with our hotel that was a worry was the fact we were on the 14th floor and there was no fire escape, just a lift.

Your quite right i could have just tipped the salt out and left. But i thought, as i was there i might as well watch the big lumps kick the ball into the air.
