Could Australia become the first modern day country to become uninhabitable to humans either as a result of climate change, the stupidity of man/womankind or both?

Because it looks like Armageddon from this side of the world - I wasn't taking it lightly, quite the opposite.

Looks can be deceiving.

If ****wits would stop lighting fires the visuals wouldn't be anything near as bad.

Police and arson squad just rounded up 24 people suspected of starting fires.

That's not even the totality of people they have brought in.

The biggest issue for this continent is water, which there is plenty of if bureaucracy would invest in pipelines from the north of Western Australia.

How would bureaucracy raise the investment? I don't think the Civil Service in Australia can take such decisions, although maybe they could sneak it in while Morrison is crying in Church or on holiday in Hawaii.

Cut foreign aid for a few years.

We spend around 4 billion per year on that which if redirected for 3-5 years could pay for such infrastructure.

They could stop locking up refugees in concentration camps....... sorry detention centres. around $3 billion a year i believe. https://www.kaldorcentre.unsw.edu.au/publication/cost-australias-asylum-policy

Actually the infrastructure is in place to move the water via river systems. The problem (or at least part of it) is that the water is being used/stored by foreign owned cotton farms in queensland so doesn't flow down to NSW, Victoria and South Australia.

Sadly our leaders are more interested in selling our assets for a quick buck rather than ensuring we have what we need.

Completely different water source.

I'm referring to the billions of litres of fresh water that could come from northern WA and NT.

Nobody owns that, it's simply running out to sea.

Are you thinking of redirecting fresh water down a 2500 mile pipeline from WA/NT to Victoria?

My mistake. I am sure our leaders would be working out how to sell it to foreign investors before sending it down to us in the southern states.

Doesn't have to be just Victoria. It can be used to service multiple states and regions. That amount of water could revitalise regional areas where having a regular source of water would make those areas far more liveable.

I'm all for banning foreign companies owning our land and resources. Especially those filthy scum Chinese.

Classy.

I certainly wouldn't support turning it into a race/nation issue. There is no benefit in deciding who is more deserving of our resources based on....... well what ever you have based your decision on.

However I do not subscribe to the idea (as i see it) that our resources are for sale to the highest bidder/our politicians cronies. I would like to see a few things being prioritized over the chance to make a quick buck. Off the top of my heads these would be: the environment; the needs of the people and the safeguarding and future proofing of the country.

I don't really care where a person is from if they can tick these and similar boxes I would be happy to work with them. Sadly i don't believe that many of our our investors care about these thing any more than foreigners.
