I was at that game. The incidents highlighted on Tv only told half the story. There was also a two footed lunge by a Spurs player which was imo a clear red card and a Spurs player throwing a ball onto the pitch right in front of the Lino to stop a quckly taken corner but with no action taken. It was an extraordinary performance by all the officials that day.
Ah yes, I'd forgotten those additional incidents 😁. There was also the clearest foul on Solly right at the end just outside the box right in the front of us that wasn't given.

I know we shouldn't make snap judgements and decisions based on the immediate aftermath of a bad result...but he really is a f***ing ****

Martinez could have juggled the ball outside the area for 2 minutes and still not received a 2nd yellow. Gutless **** of a ref

I agree. It's just unfortunate that his consistency aided them more than us in this match.
But did it? The Villa penalty appeal looked just as nailed on as the Mitoma one to me and I spotted handball for the Mitoma goal before the VAR check, Close but it was handball.

What else did he get wrong that affected the result?

I am no Atwell fan btw!

I agree with the Mitoma / Hinshelwood penalty incidents - but if you turned it round and gave them both, then we'd have been ahead and the Hinshelwood incident may not have happened. So - yes, they balanced each other out as pure decisions, but probably benefitted Villa more momentum wise.

Then the Mitoma handball wasn't really any different to their defender handling it in the box from Ayari's free-kick. That's a two-goal swing/benefit to Villa.

Then two fouls on Weiffer for the second and third goals that could easily have been given on another day.

Having said all that - the result wasn't on Attwell. We simply didn't shoot enough, and let them have goals.

But, overall - the 'debatable' decisions were:

Mitoma - no pen: Villa
Hinshelwood - no pen: Brighton
Mitoma - disallowed goal: Villa
No handball in box: Villa
Foul on Weiffer for goal 2: Villa
Foul on Weiffer for goal 3: Villa

I'm not saying he was actually wrong with any of them - it's just that the debatable decisions fell in favour of Villa.

Fair enough but that’s the way it goes sometimes. I have been a big critic of some of the games he’s reffed us but I don’t think he was biased against us tonight. My fear pre match was that he would be.

The handball from the Villa player being dismissed I kind of get, annoying as it was.

Anyway my point is that the ref did not cost us the game, we were absolute shite in the final third all game

Yes - I fully agree. Especially with the first sentence. Another evening, if he saw things slightly differently - and the Villa fans would have gone home moaning about him!

The only properly debatable decisions for neutrals was the Hinshelwood foul and the Weiffer trip on goal 2. The Radio Sussex commentators weren't to bothered by the others.

A couple of the ref detractors on here declared the Hinshelwood foul was clearly not a penalty. I rest my case, your honour :ROFLMAO:

I think Villa should’ve had a penalty, but our goal should’ve stood.

The bad decisions even themselves out. Everything else I thought was fine.

Harsh decision for our disallowed goal.Goals change games! If we equalise who knows? Harsh to be beaten 3-0 tonite. It could quite easily have been a 3-0 victory

I bow to no one in my hatred for Attwell and absolutely no surprise that 4 out of 5 50/50s went against us but, I have to be honest, I think his worst decision tonight was not giving Villa a pen and his second worst not giving us a pen. Mitoma did handball it and I called it straight away - his body language as he scarpered from the scene of the crime gave it away.

Have to agree.

Got the handball wrong after the free-kick wrong and the foul on Wieffer, when accidental or not he was still disadvantaged.

I would have given the Rashford one.

The lack of press in the second half was annoying, need to be better Saturday

Had another stinker tonight. Can’t believe anyone is defending him.

Stuart Atwell and Matt Donohue is a death wish of a pairing for the albion in almost any circumstance.
