In London village.
Just in case anybody wants to ask me to make a contribution to any police benevolent funds, could I just save them the bother and invite them to go **** themselves now. Thank you.

f*** me, is this true?

Since when did the police ever have the right to influence the potential outcome of a match?

Un-f***ing-believable.

The end the penalties are taken is always decided between the police, the safety officer and the ref - not right but it's the way it is.

Not sure why having it at that end was much of a surprise. Its always in front of the home fans for fairly obvious reasons.

So its the police's fault that they lost??!!!!!! If that is the case, then i am totally guilty as i was party to the decision...

A few of us seem (genuinely) a bit dim as to the thoughts behind this..care to enlighten us then ?

Infront of home fans - more to spill out on pitch if/when they score or save

In front of away fans - less and easier to control, surely.. ?

Count me in the dim camp on this one too. I'm confused :dunce:

Your reasoning on choice of ends makes perfect sense to me.

There are 4 officials these days.

You'd think it be easy to organise a penalty shoot out at both ends.

Hey, you are not dim lets get that sorted for a start. The reason why it was at the home end and the reasoning behind it is that if the home team was to win, the first wave of people will always run towards the players and where the penalty was taken. Then after that occurs, its natural to get a migration towards either the tunnel or the away fans, but not all fans on the pitch would participate in the second wave. If Brighton had of won then it is alot harder to get on the pitch as most of you would agree who were in the away end. Between the initial pitch invasion and the migration, this will give the stewards chance to take positions in front of the away fans. Its easier to protect one end of the ground than the other two (not counting the hospitality boxes) and you are never going to stop a pitch invasion. The decision is taken from advice from us and the safety officer and the referee. That's the reasoning behind it and you may not agree but there is your answer.

There should have been a coin toss to establish which end the pens were taken with the resultant decision leading to the placing of a police/steward cordon across the pitch in readiness.

Fair enough. Makes sense I suppose.

The Swindon game ?

From what I recall, the penalties would have been taken in front of them ?

You are quite right, but the distance from the old away end at Withdean to the goal is a lot further than about a foot at Kenilworth Road...

Surely the pens could have been taken at the away end if the Police Dog Control Unit were deployed as a deterrent to Brighton fans getting on the pitch in the event of us winning the tie ?
