Do you make it up as you go along? A lot on here appreciate his skills as a Championship striker. He is better than some other strikers we've had at this level but not as good as others. He isn't dire as a lot of other posters would have you believe. Using hyperbole just diminishes your opinions.

I said he was average at our level. Hardly hyperbole, is it?

Its All Too Beautiful
he wears the stripes and I support him, don't think everything he does is great. he is not the man to take us up on his own and twice in the last two seasons he has missed crucial opportunities, missed penalty against Reading in the final run in and the missed opportunity against \palace that may well have taken us up. he does have a suspect temperament, is great at looking to the skies and holding his head in his hands, seen too much of that this season. I feel he needs to really concentrate on his game and am not sure if he will ever make that transition. For some on here to lionise him I find difficult to understand, he is a supporting player, capable of scoring some goals, his Arsenal header was fantastic, but not one to be totally relied on.

oh dear.....

It means he played in a team that was all out attack, how many did he score against that seasons champions?

1 in 2... which is v good. Both CMS and Barnes are good finishers, but like all strikers they will miss some.

Best off-load "old man" Ulloa then as he must be past his peak. :ffsparr:

No, I said Barnes was nearing his peak. He is. Ulloa is at his. Suggest you read more carefully.

Spot and, indeed, on. You just said it much better than me.

You misread the quote. That season's champions were ourselves, and CMS did not score. Tomlin scored at Withdean and we murdered them away. TBH doesn't prove anything either way, just find the anti- Barnes sentiment very tiring.

CMS is good at a lower level and that can't be denied, but IMO has not proven himself in the Championship, nor will he (unfortunately).

Same could be argued of Barnes, but considering where he has been played, his movement, creativity, delivery and defensive attributes provide a far more convincing argument for me.

To be honest you can not possibly know that.
I pose you this question:
How can you tell if someone has peaked if they have not passed a peak already?
I suppose you could look at certain differentials of form as a function of time but I doubt you have. Would be interested to see the data if you have though.

I believe that most players peak in their mid to late 20's...

Barnes has not proved himself in the Championship as anything other than an average striker.

Try reading the last para again..... iMO he provides a better argument than CMS.

We certainly missed him today and with his positional sense may have got us something.

I like Ashley and think the abuse he's received by haters has been obscene and unfair at times. No doubt he's a good player and can score goals in the champ, but i must admit if the board are serious about promotion, we do need better.500k does seem a tad cheap for me and doubt he'll go to Burnley, but you never know
This with knobs on...good promising young player...his let down is control of his temperment...any player who comes back from a red card then trips the ref up must have issues...if he could cut that out I'd be happy if he stayed...

He's probably played no more than 10 games as a striker in this league, and has scored some excellent striker's goals in those games.

It's like putting Upson in goal then when he fails to keep a clean sheet, saying "he's not a very good centre back is he"

Nice that we are turning bids down for our players, but what I want to hear is who are we bidding for.
