Are Middleborough becoming a force in English football

With the signings of players like Reiziger, Viduka and possibly Kluivert or Hasselbaink it seems that the curly haired goon up there who is chairman is willing to put his money where his mouth is and splash out on big names. They have a decent stadium up there aand the crowds are there if they can attract them...

Zenden, Mendieta, Reiziger, Southgate, Ehiogu, Viduka..

Not a bad side at all but can they carry it on and build a side capable of making waves in Europe??

They are definately poised to take over as top team in the northeast. It will depend on whether the players perform to their potential

They're all too old now. That would have been a good side 5 years ago. They are just taking a leaf out of Pompey's guide to staying up.

Old blokes, zero transfer rate and high wages.

They might be good for another year yet but that team has no future at the moment.

Yeah people from Teeside are just as passionante about football as their Geordie and Mackem rivals. I have met quite a few Borough fans in my live time. They are nuts about their football team.

You are right about that. The Carling Cup win has given them a boost.

They do get good crowds up there for Saturday matches

I would like to see them do well.

Eh, the Smoggies are the worst supported of the 3 up there. The Mackams were generally getting better gates in the nationwide last season. There fans are passionless as was shown in the Carling Cup game up there.

However if I had to live in Smogglesboro, I would be pretty pissed off.

They should be a good side but, like Spurs, they seem to have a knack of turning good players into poor ones.

Errr, has beens?

Viduka isn't a has been and if he can recapture some form he'll do well, Hasselbaink has still got it, Southgate and Ehiogu are the best pairing in the league, Zenden is decent, Juninho etc etc...

Yes, yes they are...

Middlesbrough are expected to unveil Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as their third major signing of the week on Friday.

The club have called a lunchtime news conference, with Hasselbaink understood to have been finalising personal terms.

Reports suggest the Dutchman underwent a medical on Thursday, after Boro came in with a bid to rival one from Fulham.

What I mean is how many years are they going to get out of Juninho, Viduka, JFH?? Not many I should think. And Reizeger is 37 ain't he?

Can't see them being a major force for long even if they will be next season.

They have been attracting big name signings for a while, but even with Ravanelli, Emerson, and Juninho they were still shit. Now they've got a sturdy defence to go with the flair they should do ok.

I reckon Boro are in deep deep trouble. Quote from Viduka in the paper today......"I have the same sort of feeling as when I moved to Leeds"

Okay, so that means they'll over achieve for a couple of years and then we'll pass them on their way down as we go up to the Premier

They've been here before though haven't they? They built a team containing 'name' players; Ravanelli, Junhinio, and Emerson to name but three - and then promptly got relegated!. Just because they've got a load of ageing players that people have heard of doesn't mean they will become a force. Well I hope not for my Newcastle-supporting son's sake!
