With regards to the England team I meant. With regards to the rest of the league they sold us out for Sky money.

And I think we'll find in the summer that the players will have exactly the same lack of motivation for the cause that people love to blame Sven for.

Who won Euro 2004? The Greeks.

Why? They wanted it more.

No, they are not a British team they are a British based club. I have no affection for them when they come up against a foreign team.

Arsenal are about as irrelevant to me as any other foreign team.

BTW, Wenger claim that to suggest anything else is racist is just daft.

Huh?

How exactly does the Premiership contribute anything whatsoever to the wellbeing of English football?

They have hijacked every penny they can to line their own pockets and the pockets of players who don't give a toss about real football clubs and the real people who support them.

Spoken like a true football league fan - like it or hate it the premiership has improved our national side and provides entertaining football, which is what its all about.

I'll say again ...

Huh?

I've been watching international football for decades. I can't see the improvement in our national side that you are talking about.

England managers used to choose their teams from a pool of hundreds of players who had regular first team experience at the highest level of the League. Now they have to choose from about 40. How has that improved things?

No. Just Harlem Globetrotters,or will be v. soon. ie doesn't really matter very much if they win or lose, so long as they prance about.

Not racist, not nationalistic, just patriotic.

They represent the Premiership and the more they progress, the more it protects our 4 entries to the competition, which in turn benefits Bolton, Spurs, Man City and all the other top 4 pretenders.

So yes

What Hiney said. That is the base argument for why I always support a Premiership team in Europe.

I refer to a previous answer.

The "Champions" League is a misnomer, and is a competition stuffed full of Harlem Globetrotters from the various European leagues.

For winning teams it means loadsa money,so the clubs do not care that the players are getting knackered, and probably the players on their two years average salary per week don't mind it either.

That the "Champions" League diminishes other domestic competitions is not relevant to any of the top European clubs;a top placing to qualify is all that matters.

And all across Europe the managers will be banging on about too many games, not enough gap between matches, smaller teams hacking their players etc.,etc.

It should be returned to a champions only, velvet bag draw, first out plays at home, loser out,cup competition, similar to the one ManU and firstly Celtic won.An interesting sideshow to the more important domestic football.

Are Arsenal British? Yes,they are based in comopolitan London.Would you rather they played with British players? Also yes, probably.

But will any of it matter with the Albion 2nd bottom of their table?

No,not a jot.

I admire the football machine that is Arsenal. Rather like I might admire the Burj al Arab - that huge, futuristic 7-star Dubai hotel that's shaped like a ship.

Both are fit for purpose, beautiful to see, effective certainly. But entirely lacking in authenticity. And most important of all, totally devoid of soul.

I have a small amount of sympathy with them on this one. They wanted Wright-Phillips in the summer but because Chelsea wanted him that was the end of that. Would they want Rooney, yes but could never go to £25m.

Look at the Walcott deal and they have gambled a lot of money on his potential now rather than wait and see how good he is, and then see him go to Chelsea.

They did this before with Jeffers and it failed badly. Pennant is a good player but clearly troubled, Wright probably wasn't quite good enough. The one player you could criticise Wenger about was Upson.

Any TRIED and TESTED English players will end up at Chelsea or United because that is where the money is.

Don't really buy that. Look at Spurs - Robinson, Dawson, Carrick, Jenas, Lennon, Defoe ... all English players brought in that would walk into Arsenal's side, but Wenger just doesn't trust English players, for some reason. Likewise, they sold Upson, an excellent centre-back, and have spent years trying and failing to find someone (foreign) to fill that position.

The last piece of authenticity they have left is Highbury and that will become luxury flats in the very near future.
The current squad could never inspire a book like 'Fever Pitch.' Not just a comment on Arsenal, but Premiership football in general over the past 10 years or so.

I'm not a massive fan of the champions league, as i feel that its about rich teams getting richer. I don't watch the premiership week in week out but from what i have seem spurs have looked a better team than arsenal this season and if arsenal do go on to win the champions league then spurs would miss out. i reckon it would be nice to see spurs in europe nest season to see how they get on and to make a change from the so called top four big guns being in the champs league season after season
