Being unveiled at Apple's show on Tuesday October 4th at 6pm UK time. No dates on when it will be sold yet, but the only rumour I've read has October 14th as being the first day of UK sales.

The new cut-price Kindle looks like a bargain, although I do fancy one of those Touch 3g efforts (although the price is likely to be prohibitive, given Amazon's less-than-agressive pricing of the Kindle in the UK). I've been less convinced by the Fire the more I've read about it - no 3g, no camera, running an old (and Amazonified) version of Android on only a 7 inch screen. If they get the pricing wrong then I'm not sure how good take up will be. I'd love an iPad but can't justify shelling out £400+, and I'm not sure that this is the holy grail of an 'ipad killer'.

As if to prove my point, amazon.co.uk have got an advert up for the new Kindle (which has been announced at $79 in the US) saying it will be available in the UK for £89.

Doubtful - it is designed around having everything 'in the cloud' - they are trying to make the idea of downloading things onto your hardware obselete. Although quite how they think they are going to do that when tablets don't come with 3g, let alone 4g, as standard, I don't know.

Josh Halliday has just been speaking to an Amazon spokesman, who confirms that neither the Kindle Touch nor the Kindle Fire will be available in the UK. They are US-only, for now.
As I said earlier, the reason why the Fire can't be released outside the US is because it's hooked up to Amazon Cloud, which isn't available outside the US for legal reasons. .........
me!... This will sell bucket loads, but Apple is so cash rich that the Ipad2 price can easily be lowered to be competitive especially when the Ipad 3 is launched.
