Check the Metro site Nexus as there is a map showing where it is

Tyne & Wear Metro

Newcastle Airport - Sunderland Stadium of Light

Every 8-12 minutes

Journey time about 1 hour 7 minutes

Most journeys involve a change at South Gosforth or Haymarket (interchange time 2-4 minutes)

£2.20 single
£3.10 return

Or buy a Metro Daysaver ticket (unlimited all day travel on T&W Metro) for £3.20 - and make a trip to Whitley Bay in the spare time between the plane arriving and kick-off. Marvellous.

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
We did it in a cab for the Belgium game about 4 or so years back from the airport.

Between 4 of us it was £6 each, so add on a bit of inflation ! It took about 40 mins, but the traffic was heavy especially on the A1, I reckon it wouldnt take much more than 20 mins if there was light traffic.

So you can do it 20 minutes by road and just over an hour by train, where the hell does the train go via?
It's the Metro, Tyne & Wear's light transit system.

If it's £25 one-way in a taxi, that'll be four times as expensive per person (assuming four in the cab) than the Metro. Use the Metro and save enough for four free pints per person.

Thanks - that save some research - we are flying Heathrow to Newcastle getting in about 1pm so just enough time for a quick beer before hand - know any good boozers near the ground? -
Do they serve beer in the ground?

Was thinking of it from Exeter but I won't as flybe only do that route on a sunday:(

Solution: fly from Bristol. Only about an hour and 15 mins by car from Exeter. You'll need to stay over the Sat night, though, as eJ flight back to Bristol on Sat leaves at ten past four.

the game finishes at say 10 to 5....but the plane set off at 10 past seven...that is cutting it fine if the metro takes so long

I reckon you'll get there on time, provided you've not got luggage to check in.

An option for the return journey might be to jump off the Metro at Newcastle Central station and get a taxi from there.

Metro trains direct to Newcastle Central leave the Stadium of Light every 7-12 minutes. Journey time is about 25 minutes.

Get the 1725 train, you'll be in a taxi by 1800 and at the airport by 1820. Get an earlier Metro train and you're laughing.

I'm on the 11:20 out of Stanstead which gets into Newcastle around 12:25.

Can't be arsed to go for a :drink: so heading off straigth to the ground.

I too am coming back onm the 19:10 flight .

total cost is £95 which is highly competitive against the £87 train fare that thier now asking.

BRING IT ON...........

(PS I shall be playing "Sussex By The Sea in my headphones as we take off!!!!)

Palace fans did that for the play offs. Was a great way to go apparently and you`ll be home for Match of the day to watch Palace win again.
