Of course. Never saw him live but had a full size Parkerilla poster in the flat as homage to the man. Good music. Vastly underrated.

Full size poster? GP was only about three foot six

The Rumour were spawned from 60's band Kippington Lodge, who had a single named 'Rumours'.

Parker didn't seem to write anything particularly memorable, nor did he have a remarkable vocal talent. They jumped in the 'pub-rock' pool. Saw them on one of thier first tours - again, they weren't exactly memorable or outstanding.

My fave track from GP was 'Discovering Japan', and the album wasn't too bad....but not exactly....

Saw him live on a few occasions, once in Brighton, several times in London. Great shows - even better than on record.

Hold Back the Night, and You Can't Be Too Strong are my favourite songs, both memorable and outstanding along with many others of his, no matter what NMH says...

25 years later, the Parkerilla and Squeezing out Sparks are still regular visitors to my CD player.

Don't you think 'Soul Shoes' was something of a classic ?

...who later became Brinsley Schwarz. Only two of BS went on to become The Rumour though.

This was discussed two weeks ago, why the sudden interest in GP?

That was all part of the sadly short lived 'Pub Rock' scene which was eclipsed when Punk came along right after it. Not only Brinsley Swarz and the Rumour but there were band like the Motors and the near immortal Dr Feelgood amongst others.

I didn't know that about the Brinsleys, I have a few of their tracks on the Greasy Truckers album.

Saw them at The Portsmouth Guildhall, supported by, I think, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Dukes.

Marvellous

I seem to remember that Nick Lowe was also in Brinsley Schwarz. A superb performer and gifted songwriter. Went on to be a top producer.

Back to Mr Parker. I`ve never seen him live but the recorded stuff is class.

Don`t get me started on Dr Feelgood. Got their Best Of CD for Christmas and can` stop playing it!.
