Don`t get me started on Dr Feelgood. Got their Best Of CD for Christmas and can` stop playing it!.

Dr Feelgood were one of the BEST live bands in the late 70s.

Saw them about 5 times - at Portsmouth Guildhall in 77 (I think) it was the night that Stupidity had gone to number 1 and the whole gig was unbelievable.

TOP, TOP Band.

I seem to remember that Nick Lowe was also in Brinsley Schwarz. A superb performer and gifted songwriter. Went on to be a top producer.

He was indeed - didn't go on to join the Rumour; he carried on with his solo career.

Who remembers his EP, Bowi, just after David Bowie had released Low?

Wilko Johnson played in Burgess Hill a few months ago. Superb, a genuinely original talent

As for Dr Feelgood, surely Back in the night,is one of the best tracks ever? It just has something to it,as good now as when released.  :drink:

I jumped to go and see Dr Feelgood at The Greyhound in Richmond - a smoky little side room packed to the gills, and occasionally I caught a glimpse of Lee Brillaux, and fleeting moments of an absolutely MENTAL Wilko Johnson darting around like a broken dalek on speed!
How he played guitar like he did, while shuffling around at that pace is beyond me, but it was bloody exciting.

I wanted to feel what it might've been like to see The Yardbirds in a small pub, as the Feelgoods did a similar style of guitar-driven R'nB (quite a bit 'chunkier' but sped-up-to-date). It was just as I'd hoped too, and became a solid fan from then on.

Incidentally, Wilko's replacement axeman was 'Gyppi' Mayo, who went on to join The Yardbirds revival, along with two of the original 'birds. Most blueswailin', and actually a credit to the name despite not having Topham, Clapton, Beck, or Page around.

The YARDBIRDS ruled

Onlt really known of Graham Parker through once hearing him played on Bob Willis' excellent Radio 2 show and resolving to keep an eye out for his work the next time I was browsing for any hitherto-unfound Gram Parsons CDs, until recently mopping up an album called 'Lost Songs Of Lennon And McCartney', and really enjoying his versions of 'From A Window' and 'Bad To Me' - lovely stuff...
On the same album, Kate Pierson sounds great too... Almost enough to forgive her part in 'Shiny Happy People'...
