Another bitter blow for Britain

Chris Stewart was the original drummer.

He has written three great books. Driving Over Lemons, A Parrot In The Pepper Tree and The Almond Blossom Appreciation Society.

Now an author and a farmer. The books above plot his move to Andalucia and setting up a farm.

Was it Chester Thompson?

I think Chester Thompson played for Genesis live when Collins took over from Peter Gabriel as front man (they both play drums on the double live Genesis album "Seconds Out").

Must dash, I can hear the timer on the oven going, Suppers Ready.

I'm sure this is in the wrong thread ? Surely this should be in the " Do Something Funny For Money " Red Nose Day section ?

This.....and Chester is the better drummer imo. And Bill Bruford who also plays on 'Seconds Out'.

BBC News - Phil Collins confirms retirement

Phil Collins confirms retirement
British singer and drummer Phil Collins has confirmed reports he is to retire from the music business.

"I am stopping so I can be a full time father to my two young sons on a daily basis," he wrote on his website.

His decision, he said, was not down to "dodgy reviews", "bad treatment in the press" or "because I don't feel loved".

Collins' announcement was in response to a series of "distorted" articles that had erroneously painted him as "a tormented weirdo", he added.

"There's no need for the straitjacket!" joked the 60-year-old, whose hits include In the Air Tonight and Another Day in Paradise.

A former member of rock band Genesis, Collins went on to achieve huge success as a solo performer, including hit albums as No Jacket Required and ...But Seriously.

The winner of seven Grammy awards was also the recipient of an Academy award for his soundtrack for the Disney animated film Tarzan.

Last year he topped the UK album chart with Going Back, a collection of Motown and soul covers.

The singer has two sons, Nicholas and Matthew, with his third wife Orianne Cevey, whom he divorced in 2008.

Best news I have heard for ages! All we need now is that curly haired to$$er from Simply Red, Sir Cleft Pallete and Tam Jones to announce their retirements and the week will be made.

Who was the original drummer with Genesis?

John Mayhew?

John Mayhew was on Trespass.

The drumming on the first album was by Chris Stewart and John Silver. I understand Stewart was the first drummer and that John Silver took over from him before being replaced by Mayhew. I think Phil Collins then arrived for all the subsequent albums, as he's on Nursery Cryme.

I confess to still enjoying Genesis and went to Paris to see them live on their last tour as I wasn't able to go on the dates in London. I've also seen Phil Collins live on a solo tour at the Albert Hall and he was superb.

I also find it amazing that so many people think it cool to dislike musicians that sell millions of records. Do they not realise that selling millions generally means the music is good!

Genesis had a farewell tour 30 bloody years ago, and could we hear the last of them then?

Phil collins is worse than Madonna

Why post things that are so obviously wrong? It just makes you look silly.

The second statement is debateable, but both are good!
