[Albion] Another BHAFC Newbie (ish) !!!

Welcome. I too was born in Bournemouth,1958. Saw 1 game at aged about 9 I guess. Moved to West Sussex aged 11 and first game at The Goldstone in 1973. It';s a disease this BHAFC thing, you do realise that don't you?

Well… where do I start given the interesting welcome that [MENTION=38017]SeagullNoob[/MENTION] received!

My story is different but also similar in some ways. I was born in Bournemouth in 1961. My first admission… I was brought up as a Liverpool fan!! Oh FFS I hear people screaming - given some of the posts I’ve read on NSC. The reason being, my dad was from Liverpool. I have been putting my family tree together recently and have so far gone back to my Great, Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather in the late 1600’s - and all my relatives on my dad’s side lived in the same area of Liverpool. My dad moved to Christchurch in the 1950’s to do his National Service - which is where he met my mum… and that’s where he stayed. Hence the Liverpool connection!

I started going to watch Bournemouth in 1971 - including a 3-0 thrashing of Aston Villa. The attendance was over 20,000 - this was the old third division! That season, Villa won the league, Brighton were second and Bournemouth third - of course in those days only the top 2 teams went up!. Over the years I saw Bournemouth many times and I had a season ticket in the 1980’s before I moved in 1991 to work in Hove. Over those years I still ‘supported’ Liverpool - but Bournemouth were my local team (those days their paths never crossed)!

For the first 7 months I ‘lived’ in a hotel in Hove while my wife was back home in Dorset - pregnant with our second son while we tried to sell our house. It was at this time I made my first visits to The Goldstone - seeing matches against Port Vale and West Ham. I also went to the play-off final against Notts County

When we eventually moved down proper, family and work meant I had little opportunity to go to football, but I did get to a few Brighton games over the years at The Goldstone and Withdean. I also went to a number of Championship games at The Amex on an ad-hoc basis.

Eventually things fell into place (including being made redundant and retiring early!!) that enabled me to go to games more often. This coincided with Brighton getting into the Premier League … so I could easily be accused of being one of those new ‘plastic’ fans… and I accept that! When I started going, I didn’t know what to expect or how many games I would go to. BUT… I got the bug!!! I just love the whole match day experience at The Amex. I went to most home games last season and have only missed one this season (Everton). I went to the pre-season friendly against Nantes, Everton away and I’ll be at the Leicester game tomorrow evening. Along with many, I have obviously missed out on the trip to the New Den!

I’m on the season ticket waiting list - started at over 7,000+ and I’m now just over 4,000… so a bit longer to wait, I guess. My lads come with me now and again when work allows (they both work most Saturdays) … in which case I try and get our seats together. If it’s just me I always get the same seat in W3F. I found a really nice bunch of people around me when I first got the seat and so always try for it. It’s almost like having a season ticket

Anyway, I’ve rambled on far too long (many will no doubt have given up after the first couple of paragraphs)… I’ve been thinking of putting up an introductory post for a while, but didn’t know how to approach it given my support of other teams over the years. I guess that it was [MENTION=38017]SeagullNoob[/MENTION]’s post that prodded me to do so… but also I wanted to tell a story of how football allegiances can come about and even change!

Thanks a lot. And yes... this BHAFC thing certainly has caught me out! I will be getting my ticket for the Bournemouth game tomorrow - which will be a little weird!

Dam I love the funk, his face just makes me laugh before he's even spoken. Been a fan of curb since around season 2. Black swan is probably my fav ep. But there are too many great episodes. I thought the last season was one of the best and the worst was the one in New York, but that still have it's high points with Michael J Fox (top guy to take the piss out of himself)

I lurked on here for MONTHS before I plucked up the courage to make that first post. Scary lot, very school playground at times, but on the whole I'd say you're a good hearted bunch. Obviously, a fair handful of right tits (and left), but you quickly learn who they are and just avoid.

You and previously @Knocky’s Nose were honest in admitting previous football allegiances. Which breaches the unwritten NSC code of never admitting liking another club, especially a big club. When debated, it’s denied ... apparently we have 27,998 regulars who’ve never been fans of another club.

You and previously @Knocky’s Nose were honest in admitting previous football allegiances. Which breaches the unwritten NSC code of never admitting liking another club, especially a big club. When debated, it’s denied ... apparently we have 27,998 regulars who’ve never been fans of another club.

Not looking forward to Saturday and may even give it a swerve.

When I used to help Harty out on the fans phone in, we did a show from Scunthorpe and for a time, I ended up sitting next to Hawsey in their main stand. I don't know if you have ever sat as a away fan in an home end, but it is bloody unpleasant..and in that stand, there were homophobic, foul mouthed wankers who made it very unpleasant trying to watch your team! To hear your team abused and your chosen home insulted by people is a very difficult thing to put up with.

Whenever brighton play hudds, I listen to some of the stuff that people say and even though I have supported brighton for over 45 years, it still grates, and I left Huddersfield when I was 6! in fact after many years watching the albion, my brother stopped going after an altercation at the Huddersfield game about 4 years ago. He completely gave up brighton and now is a STH at town and follows them all over the country. He left Huddersfield whe he was 8 months old.

And before people say well **** off and support town then, I sincerely hope brighton win...god we need to..

I totally get what you're saying. I mentioned my Liverpool connection in my opening post... I have sat on the Stretford End at Old Trafford 3 times. That really was something to behold... quite horrendous!

Mind you, to contrast that... 19 years ago I was in a box above the Clock End at Highbury as LFC beat Arsenal 1-0 with a goal from Titi Camara. The Clock end was split with home and away fans and for much of the game there was alternate singing between the fans with just great football songs and banter. Arsenal would sing... then LFC etc. No nastiness or anything... which is exactly as it should be.

Hope you do go Saturday... and you get to see Brighton win in a great positive atmosphere
