Afghanistan is absolutely justified. 100% - Al Qaeda killed over 3,000 people on 9/11 (inc. one of NSC's own) & have been responsible for thousands of deaths before and after. They were based in Afghanistan. They were supported & protected by the Taleban, and it was (and still is) essential they're tackled. I fully support troops staying there

Iraq on the other hand....

I couldn't agree more. The thing is we will be there forever now as , as soon as we leave the Taliban will take hold again and re start their terror training camps.

Blair is the C*nt, and people think maggie was a war monger.....I see no differance apart from maggie did what she wanted and Blair the C*nt ignored protests and marches and followed blindly behind Bush the C*nt.

R.I.P Brave boys and girls.
These politicians dont deserve your bravery.

Surely the difference is that Maggie sent troops in to defend British citizens when the Argentinians invaded. Whereas B-liar invaded a country to over-throw a ruling government that he disapproved of, and we believed a wanted terrorist was hiding in their country .... and B-liar wasn't finished there!

C'mon Gordon, you've pulled us out of one of his stupid wars, now get us out of the other one.

I thought the 9/11 bombers came from Saudi

Yep, but we like Saudi. Ridiculous innit.

How many died and suffered at the hands of the IRA, who were largely funded by perfectly open, and permitted rallies and fund-raising events in America. Did we ever invade the good ol' US of A as a result?

Exactly. The trouble is Afghanistan is and has always been ungovernable, just by its remote location, its topography and the brigandish nature of the bulk of its population.

I do have a cure for this, I once discussed it with Martin Bell (he of the white suit) who knows the country very well, but I don't think he agreed with me about it.

Any solution though has to be a world solution, i.e. sanctioned by the UN, otherwise it won't have any credibility.

Very good point.

I was one of the most opposed people I knew to the Iraq war which was 110% wrong, however I do support our involvement in Afghanistan.

This is the country that if we allow the Taliban to take hold, will support and nurture the next 50 years worth of muslim extremist terrorism that will be hell bent on trying to destroy our western way of life and culture.

Pulling out would be a total disaster. What the UN do need to do is put lots more collective resources in to end the job much more swiftly than is currently looking likely.

Maggie created the I'm all right jack attitude which so many seem to adopt on here.

Facts are as a superpower / or being in bed with a superpower it's our human responsibility to help .

Yes there are other places that need help and I hope we sort it , Iran , Zimbab , Korea etc

Different places require different tatics.

I think we've done a great job with Afghan and Iraq is a success as confirmed by the people. Korea we are negotiating and are keeping things reasonably ok at the moment

It's our duty + people that join the forces are aware of this.

Our service people are the best

What a stuped comment, i only came back from afgan months ago working out the forward bases, i had to deal with injured people and some of them died, it is mainly a IED war out there not a connectic one (depeneding on location), so saying if you dont wanna get shot dont join the forces, its people like you that dont understand what is happening out there and are against it but still pay for drugs that fund the taliban weapons and parts to make IED's to be used against are forces !!!

You off your nut? Pay for drugs?

I believe the US funded and trained the Taliban not me.

I completely understand what is happening out there. And i dunno where the drugs comment came from, I don't like drugs. My brother served in the First Iraq invasion, My father fought in the Falklands, I know scores of people who have or are serving, I have worked with the military and went to a military where most of my friends went on to serve.I have never served as I get the basic concept of War and what joining the military implies. I don't doubt they are brave and good people however don't be shocked about being sent to a war zone when you join the forces.

I understand the problem of IED's but the point remains the same.

The drugs comment came from hearing war protesters going on about this and that against the war, the problem is they dont understand the way the taliban fund there weapons and IED making, it is through the sale of drugs around the world, mainly in the usa and uk. It wasnt a direct dig at you i just get a bitheated when i talk about it (sorry if i offended). irecuited for a year and had to explain to people if they join they would have to go out there

I doubt if Maggie invented it, but the culture of the 70s certainly seems to have shaped our current attitude to be more of 'looking after number one'.

It horrifies me to hear people saying they will vote for the party that best suits them, and disregarding the bigger picture. I guess 'there's no such thing as society' made quite an impact.

As for our service people, the attitude of those who have served and posted on here shows true courage and dedication, and they appear to have a better understanding of human responsibilities than some of the apparently better educated posters.
