I hate the yanks, heres are some of the reasons why:

American Football = Rugby : Basically the same except they run into each other in a mindless way wearing big pads and helmets and are allowed to throw the ball forward...Pointless!

BasketBall = NetBall : Big lanky legged freaks who can change a lightbulb at 10ft without the need of a step-ladder!

BaseBall = Rounders : Same thing except the need to swivel ones arse when holding the bat and spit everywhere during the game for no reason. Also has a "World Series" which includes teams from...yep the US and maybe the odd one or two from Canada, apparently Japan have a team...but thats hardly the "World" is it?...NO!

Ice Hockey = Hockey : On ice instead of on land and the need to fight and deleberatley hit the person not the puck, no point to puck they may aswell just fight!

Soccer = Football : So as not to confuse the dumbwitted yanks we called it Soccer for them so it would'nt clash with they're crappy American Football...dumbf:censored:ks!

Any others I've missed?

I just love sport, virtually ALL sports.

Never really got into Basketball or Ice Hockey, but American Football I've been a big fan of for years, and have got into baseball in a big way the last few years.

I actually like most American sports, having spend some time there and seen it live - its a different ball game so to speak.... the hyped up version on tv becomes boring as you see so little of the game and to atmosphere...

I've a huge baseball fan myself (YANKEES! ! ! !) and having played basketball for years love that too - although the college levels of most American sports are better viewing than the NBA, NFL, NBL etc....

Love US Sports - used to be into (American) Football when I was a kiddy and it was big on Channel 4. Like a lot from that era - I became a 49ers 'fan' - Joe Montana, Roger Craig, Jerry Rice and co. Went to see the American Bowl atr Wembley a couple of times (basically a pre-season friendly between two NFL teams) and also saw the London Monarchs when they were about and getting big crowds, also at Wembley.

Have played basketball for years, so always been an NBA fan. Seen a few games on visits to the States - they really are great occasions. Entertainment is continuous through timeouts, half-times etc and sitting with a beer in your hand can not be knocked.

Also a baseball fan - never been to a game live. Always seem to miss the season when I'm out there. Was working in Montreal last year during the season, but it's not a baseball town, figured taking in my first game with 4 or 5 thousand people in a vast stadium would not be the best introduction. Hoped to catch the Yankees when I was working in New York but they were on a 'road trip'.

Will try and coincide next trip to Montreal with the (Ice) Hockey season - the Canadians are mad for it - and the atmosphere is supposed to be fantastic.

One thing I don't like about US sports is that there is little or no relationship between theplayers and the fans. A game ends and the players trudge off with no acknowledgement to the people who have paid big money to be there to see them, and to support them.

Actually Bozza thats a very good point - the money involved makes the players very ego-centric, they forget about the people who pay fist fulls to take their kids to see their heros....although I did see the Bulls win their 5th in Chicago quite a few years ago and got to wander around the court with Michael Jordan and the likes....they at least had the graciousness to thank their supporters properly...

That's not always the case, as some American Football crowds get very involved - always admired the "dog pound" at Cleveland - and you often see the guys on the bench waving their arms up at the crowd to get them going. Making lots of noise as the visiting team get down in the red zone can make a big difference as audibles and even the snapcount can be seriously affected.

There are also some big noisy intimidating ballparks that away teams are not made feel welcome, and the players do regularly acknowledge the crowd in Baseball.

This is THE time for U.S. sports, with baseball getting to the business end of the season and the NFL about to start up this weekend.

This thread shows that US sports have quite a following. My teams are:

Baseball: Oakland Athletics (AL), San Francisco Giants (NL)
NFL: Oakland Raiders (AFC), San Francisco 49ers (NFC).

(It all started with a trip to the Bay Area in 1985!)

It's fair enough to wonder if you'd been born a Septic which of the sports you would have been into - because the chances are it wouldn't have been football, unlike most other countries.

I think I'd have been into baseball, which appels to the cricket-lover in me (a baseball game is a not dissimilar experience to a one-dayer in many ways) and basketball for the adrenaline fix (at the end, anyway) that you get from football.

Never really liked American football, and hockey's for Canadians.

Haven't really got teams, but probably the Cubs as I've been to Wrigley Field and it was superb (as is the Toronto SkyDome), and for basketball the Toronto Raptors, as I voted in a poll to name them in a newspaper while I was working there. Though I voted for Toronto Ice.

I would have voted for Torontos Independent Traders (New York - Paris - Peckham)

Like their version of 'Football' although I refuse to call is 'Football' It's Gridiron !

Like Ice Hockey, very fast.

Like their Football, they call it Soccer, at best Conference standard.

Basketball, tedious and predictable.

Baseball, best cure for insomnia known to man, Americans either love it or loath it.
