What has Owen done in the last 3 Seasons? Not an awful lot he was poor in Euro 04. As indifferent as Crouch is at least he looks some sort of threat whereas Owen does not.

8 goals in 18 competitive matches of which he certainly missed a couple. Shit really.

Wayne Rooney has been passed fit to play for England against Trinidad and Tobago by independent medical advisers.

Professors Angus Wallace and Chris Moran of the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham flew to Germany on Wednesday to examine the 20-year-old.

The Manchester United striker has not played since breaking a metatarsal against Chelsea on 29 April.

England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson said on Wednesday that Rooney was match fit for the Group B game on Thursday.

Professor Wallace is understood to have examined Rooney, held talks with England's medical staff and also studied videos of the striker in training before holding final discussions with Eriksson.

He's a proven goalscorer at every level, his career scoring rate is about 1 in 2. That makes him world calss in my eyes.

Fair enough, but unfortunately I don't think any of those qualify for England! Owen is far and away the best goalscorer we have, so he has to play. Even half fit he's still mile better than Defoe/Bent etc.

His record stands up against anyone, I agree partially with enigma that you can argue that some of those are better/worse but Owen is still a first class goalscorer.

I agree that Owen is a very good player, no doubt about it, but I think those players I mentioned are better. Thats not having a pop at him. I dont support England anyway.

I'm not just talking about the World Cup though, that would be ridiculous. Its far too early to judge in the World Cup, and also it would be unfair on Owen, having only recently regained fitness.

What risk?

His injury is supposedly fully healed. It'll be just the same "risk" as playing any player in any game.

The only question is his match fitness, the only way to get match fit is to play matches.

Don't see the problem myslef, give him 20 minutes at the end.

Rooney should definately not play today, and possibly not even against Sweden. As some pundit said yesterday, T&T can be a physical side and there is no point risking Rooney in such a game.
