Aldi Stores what a bunch of prats

Sorry but that's wrong - you could have a spending spree online without ever needing your pin!

But a lot of cards now have another security level so that you have to enter a password if using on line.

Not sure he has a legal right to shred something he doesn't own.

He does...in fact he is under obligation to do so if no one reclaims the card within the same working day.

I'm with a majority of people on here. The store manager was being responsible...shame that wasn't the case for everyone!

Have you ever bought anything over the phone or online?
You do not need your pin, and your goods can be delivered at whichever address you wish.

My advice: look after your cards!
I buy a lot over the phone and have asked if I can have it delivered to say a customers address, but always told they can only deliver to the card holders address only.

Wifey left her card in Aldi yesterday at 5pm, noticed it was missing today at 9am.....contacted Aldi (0844 number no direct calling allowed to store) took 15 mins on hold,
eventually get through to store and the manager tells my wife that he shredded the card this morning before the store opened, due to security issues.!!!

Is less than 1 working day sufficient time to let the lost card owner get it back before shredding?

Tescos (from experience) I know hold them for 72 hours...

Bunch of tw@ts.........

Should I complain as it now takes a few days to sort out a replacement or just let it go?

Rant over..

So you have left a card in Tesco & your wife has left one in Aldi, you sound like a match made in incompetence & ignorance

I'm awaiting the inevitable Ernest credit-card spending spree post.

Not sure he has a legal right to shred something he doesn't own.

But the card holder doesn't own the card either, it belongs to the bank and the bank would ask that the card is shredded (or at least cut in half) and sent to them to prevent fraudulent use. As soon as you realise you don't have the card you are supposed to contact the bank and cancel the card (again to prevent fraud) according to the bank and your t's & c's so it shouldn't matter that the store manager destroyed it (as the bank would have wanted) so I think that legally the store manager hasn't done anything wrong

would not have happened as the manager admitted having the card..

But it could have still been used by a customer or by a member of staff first or possibly even cloned before it was passed onto the store manager, hence why it should be cancelled.

You would be amased how many people fail to cover their pin number when entering iut in supermarkets and other retail outlets, someone else in the queue could have seen what it was and could easily have used it.

Not sure he has a legal right to shred something he doesn't own.

In legal terms I think this falls under "involuntary bailment" - Involuntary bailment is a type of bailment that arises when a person accidentally, but without any negligence, leaves personal property in another's possession. It happens when a person comes into possession of property accidentally or mistakenly. For example, where a lost purse or car keys are found and need to be protected until properly redelivered. An involuntary bailee who refuses to return the property to the owner can be liable for conversion.

Does "conversion" mean being kicked between the posts, a la egg chasers?
