Because Margaret Thatcher made it illegal for alcohol to be drunk a coach travelling to or from a sporting event.

Same law applies to football special trains.

Your allowed to drink on the way to Rugby events! I did on the way to the Madjeski on Saturday to watch Quinns!

Also am I right in assuming that this alcohol ban only applies to coaches with 9 or more seats. We have an 8 seater booked and therefore is it ok to have drink on this ?.

Yes, you're OK in an 8 seater. Good planning! :thumbsup:

I got drunk as a skunk on the way up to Port Vale and back (the D2 Championship season). Lager progressed to Vodka Reloaded, and finally cheap white wine. None of us were making any secret of it (in fact, I for one was oblivious to the laws - but then again, I was oblivious to most things by the time we passed Derby).

Was that on a coach or a train? With trains it only applies to football specials anyway, but if you were on a coach then you weren't 'allowed', you just got away with it.

The coach driver new and was ok with it ???

Its a free country isn't it how can the old bills arrest you for drinking a can of lager in the coach. As long as the driver isn't necking a can back whilst driving whats the problem ?.

Hmmm free country??????

This what our lords and masters have enacted upon football fans since 1985............................................... no anti-rugby fans legislation I notice.

the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc) Act 1985;
the Public Order Act 1986;
the Football Spectators Act 1989;
the Football (Offences) Act 1991;
the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc) (Amendment) Act 1992;
the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994;
the Crime and Disorder Act 1998;
and the Football (Offences and Disorder) Act 1999:drink:

Is it really THAT important to have a drink whilst travelling to Cardiff?

To be honest, when I get on our coach at five past six Sunday morning, the last thing I'm going to be thinking about is a beer. As long as the traffic isn't a problem there should be plenty of drinking time when we arrive in Cardiff

They haven't band the use of DRUGS so just get COKED up to you eyeballs at the back of the coach! You'll be fine:thumbsup:

Somebody else bring a bag of Jack and Jills hand them out to the rest of the coach, crank up the stereo and go f***ing mental!!!

You wont need alcohol just lots of bottles of water!!:lolol:

Nope, not in this country. I think that law applies in the USA.

There's your answer. Just rip out all the seats (apart from 8).

As long as I get one of them!

The alcohol ban applies not just to coaches, minibuses and special trains.

It also applies to scheduled trains on routes that have been specially designated for big matches. ALL trains to Cardiff this weekend are covered by the ban.

That's because there's no trouble at rugby matches. In fact, part of the fun before internationals is drinking with a bunch of the opposition.

Had some really boozy days on the way to the cricket as well.

We all know why things are different for football. Shame, but there it is.
