Alcohol on official coaches - How strict are they likely to be?

The law is there so that the OB have the power to step in if things get stupid. i.e. The coach is being vandalised, fights etc. The chances of them actually inforcing this is minimal.

If you have a reasonable coach driver he will stop well short of Cardiff for you to finish off or get rid of any alcohol you have left. Once the coach leaves Cardiff on the way back it's first stop should be a supermarket obviously.

Drink but be sensible is the answer. And don't take the piss. The OB aren't interested in nicking aoch drivers because they have alcohol on their coach. They will be more worried about rival fans meeting up for punch up. Or Al-Queda threats etc.

how does a limo (10 seats?) get around the law then?

me? i'll just have a 2L. bottle of 'apple juice' yer honor..

The law states that the vehicle as to have been built to / or adapted to carry 9 or more people. A limo is able to carry but was not built to carry 9 or more.

I would strongly recommend you don't, if you get caught you will miss the game period.

Ok how does this work.

Leave at the crack of dawn (sorry Dawn).
Obey the rules and no booze on the coach.

Arrive at Cardiff before the pubs open.

So......
When you get on the coach place a case of lager in the boot thing underneath and crack open a can on arrival.

Or is that still classed as booze on board even though you would have to be Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible to get at it while travelling.

re: dry coaches

To be fair, this only applies to coaches going to football in the UK but in most continental countries (certainly Belgium, France and Holland) it is illegal for passengers on ANY coach travelling on a motorway to drink alcohol - again, the driver can lose his licence.

Plus the drinking on coaches rule does AFAIK apply (technically at least) to every professional football match in the UK not just this one. It's the making the trains dry rule that really narks as this is blissfully rare in this day and age. Norfolk council/police are the only other force I know of that applies this same rule (to all trains leaving Norwich for four hours after the final whistle when the team are at home). I've been caught out by it a few times. Police and train stewards search you and remove all cans or bottles of alcohol off you as you are getting on (and also carry out checks during the journey). So everyone ends up having to change at Manningtree to get on a really slow train to Liverpool Street 'cause that one comes from Harwich rather than Norwich so you can drink on it. Mindless.

Given the no booze on all trains to and from Cardiff rule, and the fact that First Great Western are now advising anyone with unreserved seats to cancel their train ticket as they cannot guarantee you will get to the game (and of course FGW get to keep the sodding £10 cancellation fee) I am giving up on the whole public transport thing and cadging a lift with a mate.

Bunch of arse.

And the UK seriously expects to host an Olympics or World Cup?Ptchow.

I ALWAYS change at Manningtree when travelling into East Anglia by train.

The station buffet is one of the finest pubs in the country - and a former winner of the Suffolk Pub of the Year competition.

It's a very decent station buffet as well.

As far as the limo is concerned, I'm puzzled as to its status.

It is being operated for hire and reward.

Therefore it is either a private hire vehicle, licensed to carry no more than eight passengers, or it is a public service vehicle, constructed (and licensed) to carry nine or more passengers.

If it's a PSV, the alcohol ban applies. If it's not, then it can't carry ten passengers.
