Couldn't see an Albums 2023 thread so here it jolly well is.

I'm going to throw any semblance of logic into the sea right here in post #1 by recommending an album that came out on December 1st, 2022. That's right, we're going lawless around here.

Anyway, The Water is the Shovel of the Shore by Shovel Dance Collective is an absolute treasure. Nine piece folk ensemble combining stripped back traditional folk songs with wonderful field recordings and turning out this seamless piece of music in four parts.

Really excited by the March release of Safe Ground by Sandrayati.

Of Filipino/Irish-American roots, she was born and raised on the islands of Java and Bali Indonesia. Her songs are an expression of inspiration and perceptions that reflect her journeys and beliefs in the world revolving around human rights, identity and love.

Unsurprisingly there's another Guided By Voices album out 'La La Land'.

Their 11th since 2018's superb 'Space Gun'.

On first listen 'La La Land' seems to be an average one compared to those 11 but that's fine by me. There's another one in a couple of months which is promised to be a stranger one, 'Welshpool Frillies' and at least 1 more before the end of the year.

The 65 year old frontman, Robert Pollard recently broke his knee and has suggested he's going to use the down time to use his home studio to add to his well over 100 L.P.s

It's just sometimes I get GBV fatigie.

I see Sault have just released 5 vinyl albums. I have been collecting their others, can’t decide whether to stick or twist on this……

The prospect of a new Yo La Tengo album is admittedly not an event for the diary, but the tracks I’ve heard from it actually sound really good.

(Difficult to pigeon hole this as the five minutes flies by with dance beats, industrial synths, scratchy guitars and vocals that vary between spoken and sung. This is only their second single)

(Minimal electronics + dispassionate vocals = Heavy influence of Young Marble Giants)
3. Decisive Pink - Halfmilch Holiday
(Collaboration between Angel Deradoorian and Kate NV involves lots of analogue synths resulting in a decidely off kilter pop song)

(Producer Kedr Livansky starts a melancholic indie dream pop project)
5. Hemlocke Springs - Stranger Danger
(Intelligent and quirky pop that's very much 80s influenced )
6. Debby Friday - So Hard to Tell
(Friday's track starts with her usual industrial synth before softening into a more graceful sound )
7. Jessica Winter - Funk This Up
(Toe tapping, funky disco synth number)
8. SUEP - Just A Job
(Indie 'super' group meditate on the banality of working for a living )
9. Mary Anne's Polar Rig - Dopamine Detox
(Frenetic, chaotic, eccentric garage rock from Sweden )
10. Tombouctou - Claps Like Waves
(French noise rock with a dash of Siouxsie Sioux-like vocals )
11. Poupard - Isabelle Huppert
(About as typically French as it comes with a spoken vocal concerning the actress )
12. Le Diable Degoutant - Complainte de la Bete
(Eccentric French indie pop )
13. Mandy Indiana - Injury Detail
(This band are English but sing in French - harsh industrial sounds interweave with icy vocals)
14. Yikii - Tragic Sublime
(Chinese electronic producer goes in heavy with the orchestrations and brass to document her unsettling and melancholic dreams - a soundtrack to something not quite right )
15. Meemo Comma - Cloudscape
(Local producer's track reminds me of Papua New Guinea by Future Sound of London )
16. Katie Gately - Brute
(Sound artist produces dark, foreboding and eccentric track about motherhood )

That is superb. I must admit I did listen with trepidation as his collab with The Prodigy was awful. As you say, absolute banger...love the chorus as well.
