On Saturday:-

Simon Adingra earned just his second cap (and made his first start) as he played 79 minutes in Ivory Coast's 1-0 win over Lesotho.
Jack Hinshelwood came on as a 63rd minute sub as the England U-19s beat Switzerland 4-2.
Freddie Simmonds was an unused sub as the England U-17s drew 1-1 with Morocco - hopefully he'll get another start against Spain on Tuesday.

Finally got a chance to watch the Ireland U-21 game in full today -

Andrew Moran did not play well. He was particularly poor in the first half - repeatedly receiving the ball but not getting his head up, taking too long and getting caught in possession. Jim Crawford could be repeatedly seen telling Moran to get his head up and pass it quicker. He was a bit better in the second half and but really didn't do much until he scored. He had a good ten minute spell around the time that he scored his disallowed goal and then got fouled for the penalty - but I did find it interesting that it was Gilsenan rather than Moran that took the penalty. Also - he looked light-weight in comparison to the Turkish players around him - I think he needs to bulk up a bit. Overall quite disappointing as I expected a bit more.

Ireland were the better team throughout a game but it got increasingly scrappy, particularly after Turkey went 2-1 on 75 mins - a lot of nasty tackles by Turkey trying to disrupt the Irish game and there were something like a half a dozen yellow cards in the last 20 mins. The ref did little to control the situation. Overall the Irish played well, but it was hard to play passing football because of all the niggling fouls from Turkey - but no player really stood out ahead of the rest.

Best player on the pitch - Bosun Lawal who is with Celtic but currently on loan at Fleetwood Town - a big, solid CB who is good on the ball and never look ruffled through out the game. Reminded me a bit like Shane Duffy but has more pace and can actually pass the ball. Tony Springett of Norwich and Aidomo Emakhu of Millwall looked lively when they came on as subs and the two combined well to score Ireland's winning goal in the 96th minute. Best of the Turks was their centre back Serdar Saatci who plays at Braga (and that was despite being booked in the first few minutes of the game).

Sunday's summary:-

Bart Verbruggen was an unused sub as the Netherlands beat the ROI 2-1 (it remains to be seen whether the Irish will be able to finish above Gibraltar in this group ).
Kacper Kozlowski wasn't even in the Polish matchday squad as they lost 2-0 against Albania.

Not too much Albion-related international action on Monday:-

Joao Pedro (who did make an appearance as a sub in the first game) will be hoping he might get a start as the Brazil U-23s take on Morocco in the second of their friendlies in Fez.
James Beadle is with the England U-21s as they travel to Luxembourg for a UEFA U-21 qualifier.

All of this is the calm before the storm - on Tuesday, the final day of international matches, there could be as many as THIRTEEN Albion players in action.

Monday summary:-

James Beadle was an unused sub as the England U-21s beat Luxembourg 3-0.
Joao Pedro didn't get a chance to add to his first international cap (earned as a late sub last Thursday) as the Morocco U-23s v Brazil U-23s friendly was cancelled in the wake of the Moroccan earthquake last week.

The biggest day of Albion international action gets underway tomorrow; preview to follow later.

And so to Tuesday which promises a veritable feast of Albion international action:-

Lewis Dunk could line up for England against his club colleague wee Billy Gilmour and Scotland in a match marking the 150th anniversary of the first-ever international match played in 1872 (somebody failed their Maths exam, didn't they).
Pascal Gross could win his second senior German cap (playing for his second national team boss) in the space of three days (which would be quite the achievement); they face France in a friendly.
Kaoru Mitoma and Japan face Turkey in Belgium in a friendly.
Simon Adingra and the Ivory Coast have a friendly fixture at home to Yves Bissouma's Mali.
Samy Chouchane may earn his first senior cap when Tunisia travel to Cairo to face Egypt in a friendly.
Later in the day, Argentina and Facundo Buonanotte travel to Bolivia for a CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier.
Pervis Estupinan and Ecudaor host Uruguay in a CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier.
Cam Peupion and the Australian U-23 side face hosts Tajikistan in their decisive AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualifier.
Killian Cahill and Andrew Moran are in the ROI U-21 squad as they host San Marino in Cork in a UEFA U-21 Championship qualifier.
Ed Turns is in the Welsh U-21 squad as they travel to Lithuania for a UEFA U-21 Championship qualifier.
Freddie Simmonds will be hoping for some playing time as the England U-17 side face hosts Spain at the Pinatar Arena.

Beadle didn't play .... but my Oxford supporting friend reckon he's pretty good.

Freddie Simmonds has once again started for the England U-17s against Spain (no. 5, playing as the left-sided centre-back). 0-0 after 16 minutes:-

Andrew Moran is playing for the Irish U-21s tonight - can't watch it live because my wife has covid and she has taken over the sitting room. But talking to a couple of people at the game - they are saying that Moran has struggled to get into the game - but he was doing a bit better towards the end of the first half. Again - Bosun Lawal has been the best player on the pitch and Sinclair Armstrong is a beast when he gets the ball at his feet.
