I know at 59 I‘m deemed, by several members of my own family, a dinosaur, but seriously?

I saw Machine Gun Kelly on SNL once, not really a fan of his music but clearly he’s a talented lad in his specific field, but this latest life choice is to an old git like me, staggering.

A friend was lamenting the other day that his 30 something daughter, whose forever moaning about household bills etc, then unveiled her latest inking, a leg sleeve, a relative ‘snip’ at £1,200.

In my day it was Sailors and Criminals, no one else 😂

I think it looks quite nice.

From that article

  • Musician covered existing tattoos that no longer resonated with him
Because that would never happen, would it ???

2016 ! Nice to see people taking my investment advice
In all seriousness old boy you are bang on.

Away with Mrs H for some midweek R and R in the New Forest and got talking to a young couple in the spa yesterday, I say talking, the lad, late 20’s, didn’t know whether to talk to him or read him?

Surely those inkings won’t look good in 2034?

I suspect that inkings done in the last few months on 20 year old skin will continue to look good.

25 year old broken down ink on stretched and saggy 45 year old skin, maybe not so much

Brighton
I was out last night with an old friend whose 20 something daughter is having tattoo removal in Brighton. It's 'just' a phrase on her arm but is costing a lot more than the original tattoo and is a lot more painful. The tattoo is effectively burnt and the ink dissolves into the body.

By the way it's the Brighton Tattoo Convention this weekend - 250 stalls at the Brighton Centre - so there'll be plenty of inked people around town.

I've got most of both arms covered from shoulder to wrist and I can honestly say that I've never considered how they'll look when I'm 80.

It'll be different for everyone but I've always looked at mine as a kind of map of my life. I can look at each piece and be reminded of the idiot I was in my early twenties who got a star and a bit of Chinese text, both of which have since been covered over with new tattoos. Or I can look at the upper half of my left arm which is covered in musical stuff and be reminded of various bands I was in and gigs I'd played.

I like that I've got a physical link, etched into my skin, between the various people I've been and am yet to become.

Each to their own old boy.

I just think as Watford Zero pointed out some 8 years ago, if someone somewhere gets the technology right, they are going to make a lot of money.

Never appealed to me, partly because I’ve got a very low pain threshold, I used to cry at “Little House on the Prairie”

Someone I sort of knew has had his arms entirely inked over in black because he'd gotten bored of the ones he had on there already and is now getting white inked tattoos on top of the black ink.

Seems mad to me, and I've got a bunch of tattoos.
The use of gotten in written English in England is far more worrying than someone colouring themselves in.

A friend wants a very intricate "thing" on their skin done on their arm, who is the best in Brighton to get it done? Money no issue.

Personally, people of course can do what they want with their bodies, but I always wonder what good they
could have done with the money if they'd just forgone the whole process. Alright, I'm a dinosaur and I know it.

I’ve got tattoos on both arms and legs. Yes I was in the Royal Navy. Not a lot and as I got older and took the kids to the swimming baths I did wonder what people were staring at having completely forgotten about them. Now living in Spain and often in shorts and T shirts I get different reactions from different nationalities. The Spanish hardly seem to notice them and if they comment at all it is complimentary. My fellow Brits however are quite different and some make it very clear that they consider me lower class and beneath them. I find this very helpful because they are precisely the people I have no wish to socialise with so it works out very well. Glad I had them, they are part of me whether people like them or not. That’s not actually any of my business.
