Adams: Premier League dream CAN become a reality
By Simon Barrett
Comment

New Brighton and Hove Albion boss Micky Adams believes the club's Premier League dream can become a reality.

Dozens of people took the chance to quiz Adams when he took part in The Friday Inquisition at The Argus offices.

Adams, appointed last month for his second spell in charge at Albion, is currently preparing for the the new season which starts in August.

Seagulls fans flocked to The Argus website to quiz the coach on his plans for the future - including Falmer stadium and achieving the Premier League dream.

More than 60 questions and comments were posted in just an hour.

Speaking about the club's ambitions, Adams said: "Having signed a three-year contract my obvious ambition and planning is geared towards getting the football club into the Championship, at the new stadium.

"Obviously the stadium project is very exciting and will take the club forward and will benefit the football club in lots of ways, not least of all attracting better quality of players to it.

"After that, once we are established in the Championship, the dream of the Premiership can be achieved."

Adams enjoyed a successful first spell in charge of the club, guiding the team out of the basement division.

But he left to take an assistant manager's job at Leicester City, who were then in the Premier League.

Quizzed on whether he would show more loyalty if similar circumstances arose, he said: "A lot of my ambitions have been fulfilled since I left the Albion, and what I want to do now is establish myself at a football club and take it forward.

"I don't want to sound as if I'm lacking ambition, but my goals now as a more experienced manager, are geared towards a football club - Brighton - than my personal ones."

The inquisition even attracted a fan of Albion's arch-rivals Crystal Palace, who wondered whether the 2010 season was realistic target for the club to be playing at Falmer.

Adams replied: "The chairman is confident we'll be playing at Falmer in 2010.

"Regarding Withdean, in my first spell at the club we made it a real fortress, and we'll be hoping to do that again this season."

New players?

"hopefully" two or three apparently with 1 2 or 3 of the 10 released POSSIBLY being retained I think

I was hoping for more but that is really rather naive considering our position and what we spent on Murray last season

Barrett must have had some time after giving up a cricket career loosing his middle stump a few times in a DEATHLY 3 over spell from some off spin, right arm over the wicket

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
So instead of "6 new players" we're now down to "hopefully two or three more," and there is still the lingering nightmare that is some released players being brought back in just to ENSURE we can't win promotion next season. Micky, I'm a great fan of yours, but f***ing sort it out man.

Agreed. Having said that, he has already signed two, so five would not be too short of his target. He also said he will assess the squad. Why did he claim he wanted 6 new players when, seemingly, he had not assessed the squad?

Of the released players, the only one I would consider would be Reid, but his fitness is a problem and I think there will be players available that are just as good, but with a better track record.

More chance of Falmer being built on time and within budget than Adams getting us anywhere near the Premiership! As soon as he gets out of comfort zone (i.e. players he doesn't know of) he is f***ed.

God knows. We do need 6 players though. The 2 we've already got, a left-back, a back-up striker, and two midfielders. If he doesn't rate Sullivan we need a keeper too. That's 7! "Hopefully 2 or 3 more" does not impress me one bit. The "hopefully" reveals he's not particularly confident, and "2 OR 3" sounds like 2 to me. He should have known where we needed players very quickly, as he watched us last season, he has other staff to talk to, and he is said to have watched dvds of our matches. It doesn't take a genius to see where we don't have players. The fact he still hasn't assessed things properly doesn't make me greatly confident.

As for the old players, I tend to agree. Reid as a back-up midfielder, providing we sign a quality first choice, is fine, but the others need to be put out of their misery. All the while Mayo doesn't find another club though (or until he finally accepts Lewes is his level) I'm living in DREAD, and fully expecting to see that chump at Crewe on 9/8. I just hope Adams looks at what other clubs have offered them anything, and he'll see no other league one club is interested, so why should we be?

One word.. Money

You cannot seriously be suprised if all our aspirations and dreams come tumbling down around us on the player front.

Appointing MA looks more and more a PR exercise that suited both parties, a club desperate to increase ticket sales and the re-appoinment of a man who's managerial career was in the doldrums. It's so boring but hust existing until Falmer is really what it all comes down to. Can't really blame either of them.

Well personally I'm glad he hasn't overstated how many players he's looking to sign. Just look at the gargantuan SPACKFEST it triggered off on here in January when DK ventured we'd be making 5 new signings:

"Thats three then, wheres the other two ?"
"Hang on, he's only on loan that doesn't count"
"We've released him so surely we should be signing another replacement"
"I thought he was only here on trial, thats not one of the five is it ?"
"He said we'd be bringing in 5 NEW players, not signing the ones already on loan"
"No he didn't"
"Yes he did"
"Typical Knight"
"f*** off"
"....."

As someone who pays more for a season ticket than half of fans in the premier league, all but four clubs in the championship, and every team in our division bar Leeds, for the worst ground in the country, I don't expect money to be an issue competing against Crewe, Cheltenham, Northampton etc. There are two teams in our division we can't compete with (Leeds and Leicester), and I accept that, but we should be a more attractive proposition than the rest, and we shouldn't be signing old has-beens that we've just released (and noone else in our division wants) simply because we're too lazy or tight to buy proper league one players. There are plenty of players out there. I'm not asking for premier league players on £10k a week, and I don't think anyone else is. I'm asking, no demanding, a left-back and a couple of midfielders who can cut it in this most dire of divisions. There's no excuse for not getting that, but I'm damn well sure our club will find one.

Come on you KNOW why we pay over the top ticket prices and it doesn't follow that we should get better players than Crewe or Cheltenham if we can't offer as much or more, which I doubt we do personally, just because our ticket prices are much higher than theirs.

So no i don't think we are a more attractive proposition to a player at the moment, especially when you consider how much it costs to live in the SE
