That example stays with me also. I remember a caller ringing in to BBC News in the hour afterwards and describing a man in a bomber jacket running from police and looking like a "cornered rabbit".
A pal of mine is Brazilian and lives in the area. He knows a bit about that case.
He came close to leaving the UK as a consequence.
So, yes, I am with you and @darkwolf666 on this.

There are three stories here. One being what happened, one being how it is being discussed in the media, and the other being how people are reacting to it. This is all legitimate.

Radio 5 has a whole phone-in on this now.

Many people have already said how sad and awful this episode is.
Presumably you consider there is nothing more to say.
In which case please petition for the thread to be closed.
The current reporting and my comparison with Jean Charles goes back further and has comparisons even to Hillsborough, where the media definitely did a job on leaked (false) info from above...

Damn you, you made me check. The videos are all still there with the same suggestions it is suspected terror. As we have said on this thread all the comments about legacy media etc. then lots saying “why did they feel the might to say white man?” “Makes you think” with people pointing out it is to stop people like them attacking innocent people.

There are so many who must be genuinely angry this is a white person not a muslim/immigrant. What a cess pit of hate.
Twitter used to be a great place when an event was on. The opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics was probably the peak but it was also great for breaking news.

Unfortunately, that's now been weaponised by the Trumpites who wish to spread disinformation. If it's pushing Tommy Robinson, that's a bad sign of things to come especially as most moderate voices on the platform have left it to become an echo chamber.

The way everyone consumes information is increasingly an issue. Who cares about the truth when there is an agenda to push? The internet was great fun when it started, If I had to give it a one word description now it would probably be dangerous.

From the BBC website.

Ross Welsh, who travelled to the parade from Lisburn, just outside of Belfast, says he had to jump out of the way to avoid the vehicle yesterday.

He says cars on Water Street were able to pass further up on the road, but the driver of the vehicle "navigated" past a 'road closed' sign.

"Then there it was beeping and it screeched its tyres to brake", he tells BBC Radio Ulster's The Nolan Show.

"We had to jump to get out of the way," he says. "It wasn't very, very close, but it was close enough that we felt we had to get out of the way quick."

I agree and disagree. There’s a lot to say.
It’s when and where to say it that I have an issue with.

There’s something pornographic about people’s obsession with taking a base issue and redirectig the conversation all the time.

Yes, the issues beyond the incident itself here warrant further discussion, but it’s people’s rabid hunger to do that both immediately and incessantly that I find unpleasant and gratuitous.

No argument with you there. None at all.

I guess you can go to the top of the thread to see how it unfolded.... a jumping to conclusions followed by everything that that is bound to trigger, i.e., agreement and disagreement.

If only people hadn't jumped to conclusions and simply focused on the tragedy.
Like they did with the Southport stabbings..... oh.

The Avenue then Maloncho
Drink (or more) was clearly the cause both times.

Drink was the cause? Interesting that as I went to both matches and probably drank quite a lot of beer, I don’t recall myself trying to start of fight or indeed showing any aggression to anyone else.

Long shot here, perhaps the people that drink it are the cause.

Steve Rotheram, Liverpool’s Metro Mayor, said there are “still four people who are very, very ill in hospital”.

He told the BBC: “The actual incident in Water Street will live with those people for all the wrong reasons, and that’s where we have to really focus our minds.”

Well said ….now to put this thread on ignore

From the BBC live updates

Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims then confirms on behalf of the NHS that 50 people were treated at hospitals following the incident.

Of these, 11 remain in hospital. All are in a stable condition and appear to be recovering well, she says.

Sims then pays tribute to members of the emergency services who immediately ran to a "dangerous situation" and were on the scene in seconds.
