I'll always defend comedians, but he's far removed from that. He's been a political activist since Covid.

The best "political" comedians (from all spectrums) are capable of nuance and taken the piece of out their politics, Simon Evans, Geoff Norcott, Stewart Lee and Mark Thomas to name a few.

This guy really really isn't and can only be defined as a comedy grifter.
There is a small cabal of comedians who (post-COVID especially) realised they could earn a living basically through shock engagement on social media, and on Musk’s Twitter that’s ramped up hugely. Every so often one goes too far and even some of the weirdos who lap most of this shit up (mostly because it often involves jokes against non-white, neurodiverse or trans people) will say “woah, too far” and cast that one out. That seems to be what’s happened here (although I can’t speak to what Lawrence’s jokes usually involve, the above content was generic to a lot of those internet “comedians”).

Yes.

I'm not convinced he's a comedian though, not in the real sense. Real comedians (like them or love then) are able to deconstruct their jokes.

Even Jim Davidson when asked...

That one really really really struggles. Particularly when asked about black penalty takers.

Grifter.

He’s been “cancelled” before. I couldn’t remember what for so I googled his Wikipedia.

Turns out he’s a rather unfunny chap.

From his wiki page;

In July 2021, following the defeat of the England national football team in the final of the UEFA Euro 2020 competitionon penalties to Italy, Lawrence tweeted that "All I'm saying is the white guys scored🤷‍♂️". After Twitter users challenged him, he quoted his original tweet, stating that "I can see that this has offended a lot of people, and I'm sorry that black guys are bad at penalties. 🙏". Following the incident, multiple venues cancelled his upcoming shows and publicly denounced his comments as racist. He was also dropped by his agent.[18][19] In

He was getting a bit of TV as a panel show host. Warning signs regarding "funny" already.

Then had an online spat making (some) good points regarding the state of comedy with other comedians.

Gets a bit of traction with anti far left and "anti-woke" comedy and frankly I enjoy the mix.

Unfortunately he isn't very funny and far from a gifted comedian only got a bit known by staring at the screen with a superimposed background during lockdown with odd monologues.

99% of the population haven't heard of him and his audience are conspiracy theorists and those with a far right inclination.

It's a limited audience live, his income I'd imagine is 99% from X.

Even the openly political like Stewart Lee get a mixed audience.

Exactly. We won't hear his side until its heard in court but the charges (although serious), are less serious than attempted murder which suggests it was more accidental.
Intent to cause malicious grievous bodily harm isn’t accidental.

From the BBC website, reporting on the hearing from Liverpool Magistrates court.

A fundraising campaign set up for those affected by the incident has raised more than £30,000, including a £10,000 donation from ex-player Jamie Carragher's charity foundation.

No mention in that report of allegedly driving under influence of drinks/drugs? Does that mean it's been discounted, or would it still be pending awaiting test results,, anybody know?

I read that the drug driving allegation was dropped and there was no evidence of alcohol or drugs.
I read that it was pending. At the time, only a saliva test can be done, but other tests go to forensics. He is in custody until August 12th for a Plea and Case Management hearing so we'll find out then.

My first thoughts are with the victims, absolutely. No question.

But I get a sense we are going to see a very sad story unfold here, regarding the man who has been charged.
Sorry mate but I will never feel compassion or have sympathy for a complete and utter bastard who attempted to murder 79 totally innocent football fans including children and babies. Although no doubt his defence brief will have already started preparing his closing statement to begin "my client has had a terrible life. His parents wouldn't buy him a playstation, he was bullied at school, he was a victim of modern slavery, he was exploited by drugs gangs.....cont'd ad nauseam

There is almost always a "sad story" with background music of a string quartet.

I never mentioned sympathy.

I’m not sure the PlayStation, bullied at shool remarks are helpful or even apply here.

I’m suggesting that if we understand what triggered this act, we are best placed to try and prevent it from happening again.

Let’s not bother with a trial or evidence. Third line says it all!!

I agree.
I also consider that similar digging would be useful for other people who turn on people they have never met.
This includes the Islamist virgins and the mad white men who gay, 'woke' and left people.
Knowledge and understanding of the processes that create such people may help reduce occurrences.
Their narratives will be different.
