Lunch. Good morning session after it started to look like we might have been damaged by the Aussie tail at the start. Pitch looks good and consistent, perfect batting wicket
Cook's batting was magnificent this morning. Youngest man ever to reach 8,000 runs in test cricket history.
The problem as I see it is that we have to score at such a rate as to set Australia a target they wont get in the time left but also bowl them out again cheaply. The pessimist in me says if we can stay in bat and score 300+ they are more than capable of doing the same. On that assumption we need to still be in bat on the afternoon of 4th day.
We need to bat at least until lunch tomorrow as a minimum and ideally until tea.
I understand the school of thought that if you stay there the runs will come but Carberry MUST start scoring some steady runs soon. Not saying he needs to be reckless but just needs to start being more positive and take the innings to the Aussies. If Cook gets out I fear for the run rate with Carberry and Root at the crease.
If Cook gets out I wouldn't bring Root in. I'd bring KP in.
