Well, his contract is for four years, so I make that £625k a season if we were to let him walk for free at the end of his deal. So more like 8% a season from the 10, 000 strong crowd.

Well they are second in the league and their season ticket sales have just gone past the huge 9k mark, so a few of their plastics/JLC's are starting to come back.
We have the highest gates, and by far the highest earnings from tickets in the Championship, so we pay for the cost of the players, unlike Palace, that are operating at a loss. Sure, CPFC2010 say they want that to change, but what with your fickle fans (Dougie's words), it's easier said than done.

The owners have been perfectly transparent about it , and it's a sensible way of dealing with a £4/5 mill shortfall each season. Last season, they put in £1 mill each, but they have budgeted for that for two seasons, then they will make a decision on player sales then.
It's no secret that Zaha will go at the end of the season, so that money will pay for 2/3 seasons shortfall.

Why on earth is this news-worthy?
CPFC2010 have been saying for ages that we will have to sell Zaha if we don't go up. Zaha being sold in the summer for £15m+ will more than cover our losses, with some left over. If we get promoted this season which looks a real possibility, we won't need to sell him, and even if we go straight back down we'll have enough money to sustain these losses for well over a decade.
Note that this two year cycle doesn't end in January. We will have no problems keeping Wilf until the summer if a £20m offer doesn't come in.
On a side note, another fantastic academy product has been named in our squad tonight and has traveled with the team to Hull. Congratulations to 16 year old Hiram Boateng

So that would cover about 2 or 3 years losses caused as a result of having few fans and spending more than your income then. You have to admire the owners of clubs like Palace, Watford, Wigan and the like. To keep having to pay for a club with a low fan base must be hard. Players will always want away and the club always has to sell to stave off (in palace's case yet another) insolvency

Quick update on Palace finances, as posted by the Fat one earlier on BBS when asked about how many fans are needed to break even finance wise.

If you say that average ticket price is £15 (taking off the VAT and allowing for junior and OAP discounts etc) then if we filled the stadium every game (ie sold 10,000 more tickets than we do currently) then we'd increase income by £150,000 x 23 which would be just short of £3.5 million.
At the current budget we'd still lose money which would need to be funded by the owners, player sales, cup-runs or promotion....
