I'm fed up with all the doom and gloom on here and I stumbled across this beautiful cover of Billy Braggs "A New England" by Karine Polwart ... the perfect antidote to all the misery. I'm not sure it "spanks" the original but it does offer a superb, delicate and sensitive alternative...enjoy

I don't suppose theres a recording, but just after Steve Marriott died I saw Paul Weller at the Top Rank in Brighton, He played Tin Soldier in tribute, quite a stirring and very soulful rendition of an equally soulful song. not better, but it came from the heart and you could hear/feel that.

Marriott's missus and two boys lived near Faversham in the 90s. His old band mate, Jim Leverton has also lived here for decades. Jim had a renaissance as bass player with Caravan, and is a very pleasant lad. He told me he remebers nothing of the 60s/70s owing to the copious drug taking that consumed him and his pals. Who knew?
