Case numbers lower again today, and starting to look like week-on-week deaths and hospitalisations are flattening out (as would expected following the fall in infections)

So two weeks on from the Great Unlocking cases are still showing a downward trend, with todays figures down to 24 470 from 26 144, 29 622 and 31 117 over previous days

I think at this point most of us were expecting at best a plateauing of new case numbers and probably a bit of a surge , but apart from 3 days where figures went up, its been down all the way

Admissions, numbers in hospital and deaths have also stayed level or starting to drop again

I have to say I am very surprised and quite relived!

593 Covid-related hospital admissions in England yesterday, down from the peak of 836 on 25/7.

Throughout the last 18 months, it’s never at any stage been known the proportion of the population who’ve actually had Covid. Excluding anecdotal hearsay eg all the folk claiming they had the mother of all colds in Sept 19 and now they ‘know’ why!

I’d be interested to know now. Shirley the higher figure the better, particularly going into autumn.

Another drop in new cases today to 21900, the spectre of 100 000 cases a day in an exit wave is starting to look very very wide of the mark.

At what point do we say the exit wave didn't happen?

I think it did (cases did rise)....it was just nowhere near the pessimistic/extreme end of the modelling.
