Can anyone help with this.
Is there any word on how the newspaper got hold of the story or any thoughts on why a paper which has acted as the de facto publishing arm of tory central office for decades run a damaging story?
Im afraid the tories are the ultimate unflushable turd. I think they will easily outperform the polls, as there are plenty out there who are small minded xenophobes, and plenty more who lack the ability to carry out even the most basic critical analysis before choosing to vote tory. They'll...
I agree with those saying ……
Those seeking to draw equivalence between Starmer being “smug” and the performance of the Truss government are publicly admitting to an astonishing lack of critical reasoning and probably need to have a good look at themselves because they’re the reason this country...
Truss is someone who has spent her whole career treading on others with the end game of implementing a policy platform that would hurt millions of people. She knew her hedge fund backers weren't backing her for no reason.
She deserves everything bad that happens to her. No sympathy at all
It will almost certainly be binned now. But really this is because they now have little choice, they've boxed themselves in with their own incompetence and it will be the vulnerable who will pay the price.
All government departments will be getting below inflation increases (again, from here...
.
Well, it was lost, but that doesn't change the general point. Government by discussion and consensus surely leads to better outcomes than government by unchecked ideologues. That to me, is the glaring lesson of recent times.
They were certainly scapegoated, but there was no way a Tory party not in a coalition would have agreed to lower rate of income tax starting at 10k, same sex marriage, referendum on FPTP and quite a lot of other socially liberal policies
Th only time i've ever voted Lib Dem was after that...
Or it's a recipe for bonkers power crazed, incompetent people, who remarkably have been elected Prime Minister or appointed Chancellor (though I can't think of any recent examples) to have some checks placed on their extraordinary ineptitude
I've got sympathy for Clegg's position on this. That the first attempt at forming a government should be with the party with the most seats and the most votes. The second and third biggest parties ruling together would always struggle for legitimacy.
The Lib Dem's actually got quite a lot of...
Well yes, it's nothing to do with the advisers, they either sacked or ignored the advisers.
As you say, entirely the fault of Truss and Kwarteng. Astonishing arrogance married to breathtaking stupidity
I do sometimes wonder what LittleFinger Gove's end game is, is he trying to be PM himself and just playing the long game?
Or am I overestimating him and he's just content to be vaguely in the public eye and on the public payroll for as long as he can.
I think this is true. This faction seems to be being run by Gove and Sunak. In effect Truss is now running a minority government. The majority of MP's who didn't want her seem to be listening to someone else
This was as horrific as it was stupid.
I actually agree with the other fella, I don't think she was a bad person, but she was a weak person, forever in hock to the ERG type factions of her party. I reckon she's ashamed of this now.
To some of their backers and enablers, scorched earth is certainly the plan. The hedge fund owners, environmental vandals, ERG nationalists and hostile foreign powers, this is the blooming of years of their work
But Truss and Kwarteng aren't in on it, despite what the book says. They are just...
The MP's backed her to the final two, where they were 99% sure she would beat Sunak.
If you're suggesting that they have no complicity in this, then I disagree.
