I've noticed in the recent Maghoo polls that the outs always outstrip the ins to begin with, before being overtaken later to provide a vote of confidence. Can anyone explain this ? Is it that the outs are simply more impetuous and vote quickly to vent their fury after a bad result ?
As I pointed out earlier in this thread, EJ is not regularly topping up Watford. For example, when the club was on the brink of bankruptcy three years ago, he did not step in and rescue it. The players accepted a deal whereby 12.5% of their wages were deferred. This money has now been restored...
I'm not sure this is true. I believe the money went to the Buy-Back-the-Vic campaign - to repurchase the lease on the Vicarage Road Ground. Watford were hugely in debt and going to the wall three seasons ago. Elton John doesn't bankroll them anymore, not at the level he used to at least. Their...
I don't understand the logic of this. The warning was clearly ignored, because a further application was made inspite of it.
This was a Tory council, i.e. expected to smile on juicy property speculations, and yet to begin with even they held back - probably aware of the social and electoral...
I don't see how this makes me wrong. My point is that the Tories initially opposed the planning permission, in fact they did a lot to hamper it. I don't know why the Labour faction chose to persist in seeking the permission after the specific warnings from the Director of Planning (see above)...
In February 1993, there was an awareness within Hove Council of a real threat to the Goldstone. As a precaution against commercial speculation on the ground, the policy of the Tory-controlled Council was revised to state that, if the club were to relocate, the Goldstone could only be used for...
No, yours is the revisionism. It was Labour faction who were pressing for the retail planning permission in the first place. Their proposal was rejected twice by the Tory controlled council, and they were even specifically warned by the Director of Planning:
'It was natural that some members(of...
Indeed it does. One need look back no further than the spectacular own goal the Labour faction on Hove Council scored in 1992-3 which cost us the Goldstone. And no, I am not a Tory, Lord B, nor from Withdean, and I'm definitely pro-Falmer. I just happen to think Labour owes us a ground, because...
I posted stuff about this last year, but essentially at least one of those who initially pushed through retail planning permission for the Goldstone (which eventually scuppered the ground) on Hove Council (as it was then) is still in a key political position in our city. It is relevant to the...
Very interesting, triptolemus.
I have a few questions to ask.
You seem to like the idea of a Seagulls Party because it will contribute to swinging Prescott's decision "the right way".
Lord Bracknell
I'm afraid you are mistaking me for someone else entirely. I did not appear at the Public...
I sincerely doubt any Brighton MPs would resign over Falmer, but the mere threat that a political party is ready to be formed over the issue should be enough to sway Prescott, regardless of whether there are elections or by-elections imminent. I think he has not responded to the fans' pressure...
seagulls party
I remember the Seagulls Party was mooted in 1997, and touted in Argus Letters in November 1997 under the headline "Election Plan could save the Seagulls", around the time of Bassam's peerage. This threat to Labour supremacy in the town really did have an effect in securing...

Why don't these anti-war protestors just go and get a bloody life. Have you seen the state of half of them ? The most motley bunch of freaks this side of Mad Max. Mohicans with bits of metal hanging off just about anything they can pierce, grubby Student...
I agree with this. Why were no fans coopted onto the board after businessmen had disinherited the Club ? The fate of the club is still in the hands of self-seeking entrepreneurs and politicians, in obscure collusion that nobody outside the inner circle can really make an assessment of. The fans...
