I had a bit of a strop when I heard that Palace had won the cup, and listed mine, in theinebriated state I was in at the time
I’ve taken it off the exchange though, and will get on my bike later and get down there.
It will be what it will be.
I probably say this every year, but that really felt like the best Great Escape ever. Beautiful sunshine, seeing so many friends, some brilliant bands.
Highlights of day 4 were:
Town of Cats at Daltons, a hugely uplifting nine-piece band, all accomplished musicians kicking out funky beats and...
We’re starting at Daltons for something a bit different: Town of Cats, Headmix, She’s Got Brass.
Then to the beach. Looking forward to Tjaka.
All about simple festival party music this afternoon.
Agree, nothing much taking my fancy.
We will see Y at Patterns at 6.30, and might stick about for Another Country - interestingly different, who knows how it’ll sound live?
They’re followed by Flip Top Head who I quite like.
But we may go and see KuleeAngee at Horatios after Y. Following...
I feel blessed, living in Brighton, in May, with so much going on in our wonderful town.
For me, it’s The Great Escape today, day 4 of what has been a glorious festival. I won’t even think about football, and will only find out what happens at Wembley if someone else brings it up.
Whatever...
A brilliant day yesterday, bumping into so many friends at so many gigs.
Started with Common Goldfish, very good, and then headed down to the beach for an afternoon in the sunshine.
Honk - good fun
Say Sue Me - Korean indie with some filthy guitar work.
Arcy Drive - confident and accomplished...
Loved last night. As @Hamilton said, Joshua Idehen was just magnificent, joyful, life affirming.
We then headed for Horatios. Yes and Maybe were okay, enthusiastic and tight - pretty standard indie rock. The Orchestra (For Now) were great - what an amazing collection of musicians. The drummer...
We saw Holiday Ghosts and Traams at Patterns, Goodbye and SLAG at Jubilee Square last night.
Traams were brilliant - an absolute sensory overload with driving rhythms. SLAG also excellent.
Unfortunately working today, so starting with Joshua Idehen at Komedia at 7.15.
We tend to stay near (or on) the beach - so many of the venues are nearby.
If you’re going just on venues, the beach area is fun to spend time at in the sunshine, with three stages - though the tented ones are a bit soulless.
Paganini ballroom is interesting…worth a visit.
Horatios is indeed...
We will try to get in for Holiday Ghosts and Traams at Patterns this evening. Then…we’ll see.
I’m at work tomorrow, so starting at 7.15 with Joshua Idehen. Then, probably, Brogeal, The Orchestra (For Now), Westside Cowboy, Man/Woman/Chainsaw.
Lots of clashes on Friday, but I’ll get into Chalk...
I will not be watching. It is on the same time as The Great Escape is on, as it usually is, so I won’t even be thinking about it until someone reminds me by mentioning it later.
A beautiful sunny day, a lovely music festival and great company…I would only have missed this if the Albion had made...
Yes, I have avoided these as I always do, despite the fact that I’d like to have seen Warmduscher and Pete Doherty.
Looks like Patterns is going to be rammed. Hoping to be there too.
The Vanishing - or Spoorloos as it was called in the Netherlands where it was released in 1988.
I still have flashbacks to it, and it caused me many sleepless nights when I saw it over 30 years ago.
Seek it out.
